When you walk through the doors at Art Eye Gallery it feels like stepping through time and space. The upmarket, open plan gallery has the look and feel of something out of the movies, but is 100% grounded in its South African roots. Expect a warm welcome from Ty and Nonhlanhla & an excellent cup of coffee whilst they leave you to simply enjoy the experience and find whatever piece speaks to you most. And there are so many wonderful pieces to look at, with something new to see each time, a true display of the talent this country has to offer.
Excellent service at all times, including professional advice on framing. An absolute must if you are looking for contemporary African art. Can’t wait for my next visit.

The hospitality of the staff was heartfelt and welcoming. We were free to browse and chat about the amazing works on display. Will definitely return regularly to see the unfurling of South Africa's talented artists.

This place is pure magic! Probably or rather this IS the best gallery currently in Johannesburg, and you must visit!

The art is well curated and Tyrone has a delicious cup of tea in hand, a genuine smile, welcoming and very passionate about the pieces on show

Go spoil yourself with some art!

I am originally from South Africa but have lived abroad now for over 15 years. My wife and I went to Art Eye last year for the first time on a recommendation from my sister who lives in JHB. We loved the space and the fact that the people there were not stuffy or pretentious about the art but truly exhibited a love and passion for the artists that they showcased. Unfortunately we couldn't decide on a piece that we wanted after 4 hours of touring the space but vowed to return. This happened now in April 2018 and we were greeted by Nonhlanhla and Tyrone who had remembered us from our previous visit.

My wife and I are not art experts at all. We were simply looking for art that created emotion within us and grabbed us enough to want it to be part of our home. After 3 hours spent round the gallery we found 3 amazing pieces to take back to London with us. A big part of our decision making process was the stories we were told about the various pieces and how they resonated with us. Tyrone and his team were great and amazingly helpful in terms of getting all that we needed to take our art back with us on the plane.

I cannot recommend this place enough for tourists who want an insight into the art of South Africa or to locals who want an accessible entry into the art world.

THANK YOU SO MUCH ! What a lovely review . Without our clients support we simply don't get to do what we love and support the arts , thus we appreciate all the good will we get ! It was a great pleasure having you visit and love the works you chose . May they live happily in your home and feed your soul for years to come . Thank you from the team and the artists !

Art eye Gallery is one of those little hidden gems of the world. If you are visiting Johannesburg and are interested in art, this place is a must-see.

Art eye is very different from other galleries in the sense that it´s very warm and welcoming, you can just grab a coffee and wander around the beautiful spaces looking at the collection (they change and rearrange them often so you´re not likely to have the same experience twice). The staff is well read and interesting, obviously passionate about the artists represented. Artists who often hang around and discuss things around the big table in the main gallery, or have lunch here, or deliver new work as you are walking around.

The gallery is also hosting an artist-in-recidence on the floor beneath the main gallery where they accomodate artists from all over the world. If you´re in luck you might catch someone painting a huge canvas or making a sculpture or just watching paint dry. There is a life and vitality to this place that´s a rare find in the art world.

When you first walk into Art Eye Gallery you hear music, you smell coffee and then you look across the huge space and see little intimate settee areas. These little welcoming spaces with a log fire for those chilly days, add to the ambiance of this wonderful gallery. Being offered coffee, being able to meet artists in residence, being taken around by the informative and passionate gallery staff make this a great place to hang out. In the main gallery,(there are so many nooks and crannies showing off incredible work), you can just sit- just sit quietly on this huge bench, and just look. Every piece of work is made important and as you look down this long gallery space, you notice the afternoon light filtering in, silhouetting sculptures and casting oblong not-shadows along the width of the floor. It is magical - I love this place!
