Great place for a short visit to a parc
Small jewel in between Pretoria and Johannesburg. So if you don’t have time to drive all the waytonthe bigger parks this one’s offers several animals and very nice views. At the end of the day on our way out we encountered mamma Cheetah with cubs, amazing.

    Wonderful day outing.
What a pleasant surprise. We went as family for a picnic and game drive. The roads are well marked and the picnic area is neat and clean. The restrooms at the picnic spot could be better but other than that I cannot fault the reserve. The cheetahs gave us a spectacular show with them just lying next to the road and we could probably get within 20meters from them.

Excellent day out (and picnic/braai) too
Really enjoyed my day out at Rietvlei and I have recommended it to friend's (especially those with kids). I drove every track and walked the bird hides. I saw and photographed some beautiful birds and saw my first ostriches. The Marais Dam area is an excellent picnic (and braai) spot. Entrance fee is very reasonable. I didn't stop at any of the cafes, so can't comment on those. I thoroughly enjoyed my day (I spent 6 hours), and excellent experience; especially if you need to stay close to either Pretoria or Jo'burg.

Enjoyed the game park, being so close to the city and surrounded by Highways but still peaceful. Many animals spotted and enjoyed the dams where Hippos were seen at a distance

Peace and quiet on the outskirts of Pretoria. The self-drive option is inexpensive and includes several bird hides, lookouts, picnic spots and even a coffee shop, which we haven’t visited yet. The diversity of wildlife is amazing and you can take pictures of buffalo, rhino, zebra and many more at close range. Definitely worth a visit, especially at sunset.

Worst experience ever! Booked a gamed drive in December. Got there this morning, nothing book. Owner just says come back later. Had a whole day planned for my son's birthday, and this is how they mess it up. Pathetic! Will never spend any of my money there again.

Driving freely around the reserve, spotting animals from a distance was enjoyable, take care if in a car off tar roads.
Coffee shop in the homestead was handy but does need some attention.
Numerous comments regarding state of the toilets were heard from the ladies, wet floors, lack of paper and hand washing materials.
The house was a home in the past and it has history that could have been better used.
All staff were friendly even though a little un organised.

I have written many reviews for Rietvlei. Today it saddens me to have to say that in spite of the great place that the reserve is, it is slipping into rack and ruin. Maintenance on just about all levels is non existent and this detracts from the experience. I go reasonably often and the signs are all there. The dirt roads have not been attended to properly since the last summer rainfall season and many are simply blocked off in the most unattractive way (see pics). It’s as if nobody cares and taking pride in the reserve has disappeared.

Treated like a criminal, I have declared I have a handgun and I was told that I cannot enter the Reserve this after I have supported them for many years. I ask for a safe place where I can store the weapon but they had no facility for it. I find this to be pathetic as most other reserves offer a place of safe keeping.
