We had our own private tour with this company at our disposal. Jakes - our tour guide and the owner/operator of Amatungulu Tours - was absolutely first class. He was punctual, very polite & attentive and knowledgeable regarding all things relating to South African culture, history and wildlife. Jakes provided a real personal touch that we felt was second to none and was happy to accommodate any requests regarding the tour itinerary. All of the accommodation and experiences that he booked were excellent & thoroughly enjoyable - all of which made for a wonderful holiday, that we will never forget. Thank you Jakes. My wife and I cannot recommend this tour highly enough.

The itinerary was mostly good but quite demanding with travelling up to 7 hrs/day. Capetown and area was lovely, Johannesburg and the coal belt were very polluted by smog, Kruger was like a large zoo with no fences - the animals are used to people and pose for pics. Durban was terrible - dirty and dangerous - I recommend skipping and going to another beach location. Our guide was technically strong (driving, culture, history, geography) and treated us with respect. That respect was not extended to others - he treated parking lot attendants, toll booth attendants, hotel staff, etc. in a despicable manner. He also invited a special needs female to accompany me on part of the trip when I was travelling solo for the sole purpose to protect him from false accusations from me, a 70 yr. old woman. Would not recommend this trip to single female travellers or to anyone sensitive to how others are treated.

Facts: The parking attendant, etc. was questioned when he directed us to another space after we parked. This raised suspicion as the crime rate in those areas is high, and your safety and comfort are priority for this company. The other ‘normal’ Guest made a booking (was never invited) and never required any ‘special needs’. My company policy (and South African law) does not tolerate any discrimination against anyone. It is inappropriate that a reviewer (guest) is allowed to insult another guest on this platform, and should TA be ashamed to allow it!

We just returned from the 15 day plus, Private driving tour that took us from Cape Town via the Garden Route, through Kruger Park & into Eswatini formerly "Swaziland" and on to Johannesburg. We stoped at so many places along the way and got to see things that many who visit South Africa never see. We started with Table Mountain on a beautiful day & Simon's Town and the Penguin Colonies. The truly scenic drive on Route 62 was an experience. Stopping along the way to see the sights & Congo Caves was a wonder. Jakes truly tried to fill each day with something special. Addo National Park is a must for those wishing to see the Elephants & more. "The Hole in the Wall" is one for the adventurist & Oribi Gorge was wonderful. We went though a few of the animal rescue sights and sanctuaries, "Falcon Ridge", "Hoedspruit Endangered Species Center" "Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Eden" & others. We also went to see the Drakensberg Boy's Choir. The two days in Kruger were wonderful and we saw many of the Big Five. Then on into Eswatini & the Hlane Royal National Park. This was wonderful. One of the few places to see Rhino's still with their magnificent horns. This is a MUST!!! This was a long and active trip, staying in B&B's, wonderful park lodges, hotels and even a Rondawel with a wonderful local family. They served us a wonderful local dinner and the local children gave us a song and dance show. Jakes allowed us to alter plans along the way and we kept very busy. We ate at many local and wonderful little restaurants, Wineries & quick stops in route. This was a trip for those who wish for an adventure & we did have a wonderful adventure. This was one for the bucket list. If you wish a private tour, Jakes can customize a trip to your desires. Suggest to do your homework first as there is so much to do and see. Know the distance you need to travel.

Travelling in South Africa exceeding our expectations. Amatungulu Tours arranged a tailor tour for us, as we were doing a business conference, and could only join halve of its itineraries. Jakes did the planning and bookings around accommodation availabilities, as well as many fantastic activities in the Garden Route and Durban area. We did not realise how big SA was until we had to travel the distance on the roads, but the scenery and unique diverse landscapes just made it all worth while. The guiding and interpretation we got about the history and culture was just brilliant. We also felt safe and well looked after by him and the overnight staff. The food was always very good, and we highly recommended this tour company to everyone.

A wonderful tour of the Boer and Zulu Battlefields with a visit to the Drakensbergs a highlight. Though we covered over 1700 km in our 6 days, we were never conscious of the distance, as there was always so much to experience along the way ! Simon, our personal guide, was always thoughtful and attentive to our needs and wishes: in fact we were thoroughly spoilt ! A very high recommendation to anyone with an interest in 19th century South African history. Special mention must also go to the Ndaka Game Reserve with its thoughtful approach when viewing wildlife. Probably one of the most intimate and professional lodges we have experienced. Thank you Jakes for such a memorable trip.
