We did the 10km hike at Hennops. The reserve is well marked and easy to find. R100 entrance fee with a guide who gives you a map and helps you pick a trail - there are a few options plus mountain biking too. We did the 10km hike. It was well marked and easy to follow, including along the river, through some of the mountainous areas and grassland towards the end. It is quite a demanding hike though not difficult if you take your time. Probably 3-4 hours overall. A number of places to stop along the way with seating areas or of course you can find a view point or rock to sit on. We liked it very much. At the end (or beginning) there is a shop selling refreshments, coffee, sandwiches and boerie rolls at good prices.

Spent a full morning and half an afternoon doing two of the trails back to back. The Krokodilberg trail is the one labeled as ‘difficult’ so do that first - especially as early a start in the morning as is feasible. Even though this was labeled as ‘difficult’ it was anything but. On a scale of 1-10, where 10 is the hardest, this probably ranked a 4 to a max of 5. That’s coming from someone who hikes regularly while traveling but rarely exercises while not on vacation. If you are overweight and struggle to go up a couple flights of stairs then don’t bother with this trail as you’ll end up taking one of the exit routes along the way. Didn’t see any animals but did see a lot of birds, flowers and insects. Total time for the first trail was 4hr20min (with multiple rests, photo opportunities, etc…).

The Zebra trail is decidedly easier. It is probably a 2 on the same aforementioned scale of difficulty, or lack there of. We spent a solid two hours and ten minutes to do this trail but that was because we stumbled upon a herd of zebra and the lone wildebeest that joined them to munch on grass. Watching them behave entirely naturally with no safari jeeps surrounding them, ogling tourists, etc… was something we couldn’t pass up on (solid 20+ minutes).

Total time for the two trails with a break in between is ~7.5 hours tops.

The owner/s are taking advantage of their visitors. The entrance fee of R80 per person was already a bit high but we continued to go there. Last week (01 01 2021) when we were there again we saw, they made the price R100. It is ridiculous. While other many good places around are still charging R30 to R70. Seem, they being snobbish.
So, we already stopped going there. The place is lovely, moderate, beautiful but for less fee, there are many other places all around Gauteng.

Excellent, well run and appointed in terms of maps and explanations on the different hikes available. 5km, 8km or 10km. Start early as it can get very hot out there. Carry lots of water to stay hydrated. Very rewarding overall, enjoy the city escape, out in nature while pushing the limits on incline hiking, Picnic facilities available after hiking. We went after the heavy rains so some boardwalks were inaccessible. Overall the environment was well maintained, albeit spots of litter (human factor unfortunately, leaving rubbish along river). Brilliant hiking trails overall, you can get lost (in a good way!) while having a work out!

A few friends and I decided to make use of the freedom we were given to go hiking, decked out in our masks and trying to socially distance. It was a beautiful day, the weather was lovely and we had a good time. The 5km Zebra Walk was an easy one. Crossing the river was fun. Some chose to cross on foot, while others chose the cable car. It's a great family outing.

A great hiking place! Entrance is R100 but as 2 young ladies hiking we never felt unsafe! There are different hikes to do and much to see - we did the 5km one in about 2 and a half hours. The hike is relatively easy with some spots requiring good leg strength! There is a little restaurant on the property as well and their pricing is good. Bathrooms are available. The drive there is simple enough with a GPS and does require you to take a short dirt road. Cars with lower clearance / that are not 4x4’s will make it - there is also adequate parking space. I definitely recommend going to visit if you’re wanting to experience a nice hike. You do go between the bush as well so it’s not all just flat. The cable car thing is fun to ride - make sure to bring something for the operator who stands there all day helping you use it.

A beautiful day out, we really enjoyed taking our time to appreciate the natural beauty.

We started the 10km walk but ended up cutting it a bit short as we did not start early and realised it was too hot. Path is marked clearly, various points asking people not to be a litterbug which was nice, yet still there were a number of plastic waste to be found along the path.

No problem with the entrance fee. Perhaps the owners could walk the trail every so often to spot any plastic that could be cleared up on the path.

I went to Hennops Hiking Trails on a Wednesday and it was really a fantastic experience. I took my 7yr old with me and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. We did the 10km hike in Winter so it was dry and dusty, but the views and wilderness and challenge factor were all on par. It wasn't too busy as it was the middle of the week but one can see the paths are well used and due to it's close proximity to Johannesburg and Pretoria, I can only imagine that it would be quite busy in the weekends. The trails offers varying scenery, some light wildlife and nice little checkpoints along the way to gauge your progress. Overall we had a lovely outing.

Spent a wonderful few hours walking the Krokodil 10km trail. It took me 4 hrs at a steady pace and taking a lot of photographs. I started at 10 am and was grateful that o had been told to take plenty of water. It was very hot and dry. Please take a lot, especially if you walk the full trail.
I was impressed at how well the trail was signposted, everything marked on the map, except one viewing are(but that was logical). Keep walking until you get to the signposts. Never saw any animals, but it was during the heat of the day.
Note that there are exit routes if you find the trail too long.
You are aware of traffic and of course the Power Station is visible a lot of the time. I enjoyed the blossoms that were out.
It may be an idea to signpost “Aloe Valley”, and market it, as it must be beautiful in the winter.
The staff were very helpful, including emails and phone calls. I was concerned about walking on my own for so far. This trail is as safe as you will get anywhere in SA and they have had no security issues for some years now.
I was very grateful to purchase really cold Cokes at the end of the days walk. You can buy a few snacks and water as well.
I only saw 3 other groups of people all day, but it was midweek. I believe the week ends get busy.
Really enjoyable outing and hopefully I will be back soon.

The hiking trails are spectacular, the views out of this world.

The service from the people working is excellent. I would advise for anyone planning to hike to get to the trails before seven in the morning as it gets really full and parking is gets pretty full.
