About
ALL the plants in this Garden, whether they are trees, shrubs, ground covers, climbers, annuals, succulents, no matter how large or small – ALL are herb plants. Herbal plants have beneficial properties of one kind or another, which you will discover as you walk through the gardens. This garden began its life in 2006. Each year a new section has been added. It is estimated that it now contains over 450 types of herb plants. There is no other garden of its kind like this in Southern Africa – a true botanic gem nestled in the heart of Gauteng. A Bistro, Play Yard, Party Venue, Education Gardens, Herb Shed Creative Studio and Gardenette and retail centre all make up The Herb Farm expierience.

Shocking experience! Absolute waste of a potential gem!

I actually don't know where to start! We walked in to an amazing setting, garden and play area. That's where the good ended. We had made a booking in the play area but there was no table for us. It took 45 mins before they managed to find someone to bring a table from the bistro for us to sit at. During this time we were not offered drinks or anything. When the waitress came with menus we ordered drinks and food straight away. 4 coffees took 40 mins to arrive. We ordered 2 kids meals. 1 arrived after 45 mins and the 2nd one arrived half an hour after the first one after we asked a number of times where it was. 45 mins after we ordered we were told that one of the meals we ordered wasn't available and we needed to order an alternative. An hour and a half after we ordered 3 of our meals arrived. Mine (scrambled eggs and toast) never arrived. We found out that they hadn't ordered it so the waitress eventually went into the tiny kitchen and made it herself so I could get food 3 hours after we arrived. The food left a lot to be desired and half the limited menu was not available. No pancakes no croissants no health bowl no bacon only bacon bits. The service was non exist ant and eventually we were fetching our own drinks sugar etc. Far too little staff and no manager to even complain to. The lady we did find to complain to seemed uninterested and didn't really have anything to say. Two tables next to us left without food after their food hadn't even been made after waiting two hours for it. What a pity that mismanagement means that this gem of a setting and play area won't succeed. We will not be back.

Has had a serious upgrade
Apr 2019 • Family
We visited the Herb Farm last year for the Autumn Garden Show and were disappointed that it was not open to the public other than for special occasions. This has changed. We went again to the annual show and despite the continual rain discovered major additions and upgrades. The herb and spiral garden is in far better shape. Our 14 year old grandson was fascinated by the wealth if info. There is a lovely Kids Zone next to a restaurant, which we did not visit during the show. We will return with our younger grandchildren on a non show day.

Beautiful setting, that’s about it

We got there at 10am but a number of items on the menu were already sold out. Granted the menu does say they aim to sell out their food to ensure ingredients are fresh, but at least have a board with items that are sold out or brief the waiters to tell the patrons this as soon as they sit down. Kitchen ran out of gas so our simple breakfast took about an hour to arrive after we ordered it. French toast was more like toast. Ordered fried egg whites for my kid, but we got normal fried eggs instead. Ordered a toasted cheese and tomatoe sandwich with no bacon but that was also wrong so returned it, the waitress brought it back saying there is no bacon in it, but there is ham😳 ended up cancelling that meal as we already waited very long to get our meals. Service in general was slow. Wouldn’t risk going back there in the near future

Mar 2019 • Couples
It was very disappointing as restaurant could not cope
We waited 2 hours for our meal and when it eventually arrived the food was cold - set menu on a Sunday and variety niot great - dessert consisted of a trio of choc cake / crumble and cheese cake - hardly edible
Such a pity as setttung is very nice surrounded by rose and herb gardens
Waiters were helpful and apologized for poor service

A fabulous array of herbs and great for kids
Dec 2018 • Family
We visited the herb Farm in December with my sister whilst on holiday over Christmas. The herb farm is a lovely place especially the area designated for children, child friendly and very educational. Although we didn't have young children with us and it was a new facility the staff were lovely and proudly showed us around.
We thought to go to the restaurant in the separate garden section for morning coffee as its in a lovely setting, peaceful and relaxed. However the lavender jscones were awful and the jam although very nice was minuscule in portions, not even enough to cover half a scone! The cake tasted of something we couldn't identify. Such a shame as it has the potential to be a great place if the improve the quality of their food.

The worst food I have ever been served
Jan 2019 • Couples
Omg where to begin. The food was basically inedible. My starters were bad quality Smoked salmon served with sweet pancakes...terrible. Followed by dry and burnt ‘pork’. It tasted
like beef though and the cracklings/ fat was so salty that it was completely inedible. Other promised ingredients missing off every plate which were equally disappointing. The restaurant was also completely disorganized with bad service. Other than the fresh juices which were nice and the stunning setting I have to wonder if the owners of this place are joking because one absolutely cant take them seriously. What a disappointment for a family outing on a a Sunday. If you have kids rather visit the playhouse but otherwise don’t waste your time.

Stunning gardens, great food
Jan 2019 • Family
The Herb Farm is a stunning garden restaurant which offers a unique experience. We had a delicious lunch whilst overlooking the amazing herb garden. The food was well presented and tasted amazing. You can go for a walk around the huge garden with lots to see. This restaurant is truly a unique find for the area. However, the service should focus on consistency as my parents had gone the day before and had awesome service, they were engaging, friendly and helpful which was the opposite of our experience. Service issues aside, this restaurant is highly recommended and is the perfect venue to take guests, family and friends for an awesome day out. We had a super lunch and will definitely be back!
