Dlala Nje offers immersive experiences of Hillbrow, Yeoville and other parts of Johannesburg inner-city. As some of South Africa's most notorious - yet misunderstood - neighbourhoods, they remain taboo for most South Africans and many tourists. Dlala Nje removes this fear of the unknown with authentic experiences like no other. Hit the streets for a view of REAL inner city Johannesburg.

An extremely interesting tour of Ponte City (the Vodacome tower) which was once a super expensive residential tower, then the world's tallest slum filled with squatters and now reverting back to a well-run middle class Joberg residential place. The tour starts at the tower where we learned about the history of the once-ritzy neighborhood and how the government created blocks... More

After recommending the 'This is Hillbrow' tour to a lot of my guests I finally ended up on one! The tour was well organised, but also relaxed. We started at the bottom of Ponte, then went through security and up to the Dlala nje office/apartment to see the views (you only see the outward view on the side of the... More

I did the 'This is Hillbrow' tour on a sunny Saturday morning, having been recommended by some colleagues who had been before. The booking process was straightforward and I received the necessary info the night before. The Hillbrow neighbourhood has quite a notorious reputation, and being alone at the weekend, I was slightly nervous about asking my uber to drop... More

My friend and I really wanted to see Ponte Tower before we left Joburg and we were very grateful that they could arrange a short, impromptu tour of the building for us on the day. It was a bit difficult to find but once we met the guides we had a great time exploring the tower, checking out the view... More

Great way to explore Yeoville and Hillbrow is through Dlala Nje, a non-profit organisation situated in Ponte Tower. The visit into the core and hearing about the gruesome history of Ponte Tower is the highlight of the Hillbrow tour! The Yeoville tour is focused on the PAN-African food cultures. It is especially interesting because you go in the evening and... More

The tour of Ponte City and the surrounding suburbs of Hillbrow, Berea etc was eye-opening, very informative and a really fun day. The tour guides were awesome, particularly cool was that they grew up around there, know the history and provide insight that stems from having deep ties to the place. The history of Hillbrow and Ponte's controversial past left... More

Great opportunity to explore different sides of Johannesburg. As an architect, it was great to see Ponte from the inside and also walk around the neighbourhood. The guides were very helpful and, since they live in the area, they could tell us a lot. Definitely recommend!

I had my second tour with Dlala Nje on Sunday and it was just as good as the first! The tour of Hillbrow was fascinating. I was with a group of friends, one of whom lived in Hillbrow in the 80's and another who was able to tell the guide details of the interesting geology exposed under the Ponte building... More
