We visit the park every Sunday with our dog, and the three of us enjoy it equally. the park is expansive and well maintained, with diverse sections, including lovey small eucalyptus forests. It has gorgeous views, including most beautiful panoramic views of the city.
We take coffee and lounge on one of the benches, but there is also coffee available right across the road, or from three nearby outlets. The park offers a range of options for picnics, from spreading a blanket on the grass to using movable picnic benches.

Visited the park recently, definitely one of the most well-maintained and spectacular parks in the city.

When I go to the James and Ethel Gray Park, my curly ears sway and my tail wags insanely because I love this space. It has hills and crevices, it has woods filled with all kinds of shade trees (oh the sniffing – I simply can’t resist), it has walkways and two playgrounds and the views – oh my Dog, the views! This is one of the best places to see the city in all its glory and if you happen to be there at sunset, then it’s deep red skies and crimson window all-a-twinkle.
Humans of all kinds trot around this little piece of the countryside in the city; some are young, some are not, but they all have a lovely time. Many bring their little ones to play and romp and gleefully slide down the hills on makeshift cardboard toboggans. It’s a safe space for them too and should they decide to bolt, then there’s one of those new see-through fences to stop the little pups from escaping.
Finally, let me let you into a little secret – just across the road are some friendly neighbourhood shops including one that has the most delicious bones in town and another where I like to have a nice bowl of cool, fresh water to quench my thirst (caused by all the skittering about in the park - with my doggie friends of course); the kind owners also give my human a cup of coffee while I enjoy my divine libation.
Do visit us soon.

James and Ethel Gray Park (JEGP) is a large green space in the heart of Joburg's north-eastern suburbs. Great for picnics, dog walking, jogging, cycling or just chilling, the park offers an panoramic view over the city and is a true gem. Highly recommended. I visit daily with my dogs and it helps keep me sane :)

My little one refers to it as Toads Park (Toad is their puppy's name). And all the other dogs as Toads friends. They always have a great time walking around the grounds, seeing the other dogs and cheerful folks. All walks naturally end with some time at the playground. It's a pleasant outing and the park is well cared for.

Well kept, clean and probably the safest park in gauteng.
My favourite park in Johannesburg.
The foundation does brilliantly to keep this park in the state it is.

An oasis in the city! One of the gems in Johannesburg! Well maintained. I feel safe walking around this beautiful park, where dogs and their owners can socialise freely.

This park is one of the most beautiful and well kept in Johannesburg. The park is mainly used by people walking their dogs. The big advantage being that the park allows leash less dog walking. On a Sunday afternoon, you will see almost 100 dogs running around enjoying the facilities. It really is amazing.

The park also has shady play facilities for kids.
