Johan looked after us for the whole of our time in Jo'burg. His encyclopedic knowledge and enthusiasm kept us enthralled and entertained constantly. We learnt and saw so much from the history of Pretoria, to the creation of the townships to the struggles of the early Boer settlers. Difficult to pick a highlight but I suppose visiting Nelson Mandela's home would top many people's lists.
We look forward to meet Johan again upon our return to South Africa.

My husband and I had a day layover in Johannesburg and wanted to fit in a half day tour to learn more about the city. Wow, Johan did NOT disappoint. We learned more than I ever expected was possible in 4 hours and I felt we were able to see the entire city. Johan is a gifted storyteller and has spent his entire life in Capetown and knows the history first hand. His van is extremely comfortable and he had waters to offer. We are thrilled that we were able to optimize our limited time in the city by taking his tour. If you’re on the fence- go for it! Best spent half day!

Awesome tour! Johan is a walking encyclopedia. A wonderful tour of not just learning about the “new” Johannesburg but of the cities entire history. He also had a great story about being a teenage volunteer firefighter during the unrest.

Johan was amazing - my husband and I learnt so much having spent a day with Johan who took us through Johannesburg to Soweto and then in to the Cradle of Mankind.
It was the most informative tour we have ever done. He was very punctual and made sure that we would be back at the airport at the allocated time having shown us everything we wanted to see and learn about. He drove safety and carefully and the car was very comfortable and clean Thanks Johan much appreciated.

We are experienced travellers and can recommend Johan as he is the owner of this business. He is also a key person in the Tourist Association aiming to build professionism into the local tourism industry. His website and booking process is reputable and you can see yours and others bookings so can be assured he has not double booked. We built our own program and despite a rally at the large hospital and a road closure still managed navigating throughout the city to keep to our timetable. We did miss one museum but he explained the history of Hector Peterson so we were not disappointed.
He is a knowlegeable person passionate and truthful about his city he has lived in his entire life.
We also did airport transfers making out stay stressfree. If ever in JoBurg I would definitely used Johan again without hesitation.

My husband and I spent 4 super days with Johan from African Timeout. In those 4 days, we saw a tremendous amount of sites in South Africa. My husband found African Timeout on line before we left for Africa and communicated with Johan by email for several weeks. He set up a wonderful time for us and introduced us to new experiences and new food. Thank you Johan.

We did a 3 day 2 night safari with Johan with our family of 6. We had the best time! Johan created a memory of a lifetime for our family! We saw so many animals including the Big 5! Food was great, accommodations fantastic, and the safari amazing! I would recommend anybody for this tour. Thanks Johan for a great trip!

Johan is the best! Not only did he arrange for/coordinate an amazing weekend safari at Pilanesburg, he also led me on the best (most animal sightings) of all the safari I've been on. He is also a super nice guy and a pleasure to be with.

Johan has been our guide in 2014 when we did a tour through Johannesburg. The day was perfect and therefore we have asked him again in 2016 for a day tour to pilanesberg.
This was also a perfect day. Would highly recommend Johan.
