I don't like a hotel which is also a museum at the same time, because if hotel residents are trying to enjoy the hotel, then comes museum visitors, and they have to walk past the hotel rooms, hotel lounge to access the museum rooms.

The property is small but full of content and interesting things. A trip down a bit of Ghandi's life and early Johannesburg. If you are looking for something that will take an hour or so, this is the place to go. Easy parking.

I’m a Japanese living in India. Stayed here during my trip to Durban and Johannesburg following the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhiji. Perfect to be reminded about Satyagraha initiatives. Lots of photos, messages and explanations about the life of Gandhiji around Johannesburg are displayed. Foods are...More

Styagraha House, a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi,s contribution to South Africa’s freedom movement, reminds us of the great role played by this great leader, in achieving freedom through “ahimsa “(non-violence ). Our heads bow in reverence.

We loved visiting this place. It is part of the history of S. Africa and what Mahatma Gandhi did for the downtrodden in this land. My only regret is that the owners of this property has built a B&B to serve visitors instead of leaving...More

The house is a mix or original and new, but very well presented and our guide was very informative. You can see artifacts, letters and other info relating to Ghandi's time there and his wider life and work. The house itself is interesting, it also...More

Joining and organised group visit to Satyagraha house was an eye-opener. Apart from the fascinating history, the complex seems like a tranquil safe haven in the middle of the rush of Johannesburg.

I went and had a pre-booked lunch so I assume that this took care of any fee type arrangement. The web site does not specify a visitors fee...so recommend you email or phone ahead so as to be sure. Best wishes Chris
