What a trip. I have wanted to visit South Africa since I was a teenager and learned that my grandfather fought there as a very young man during the Boer War and we had the letters he sent home. One of the cousins contacted Katz and organised a family trip to the battlefields which should have happened in 2020 but for obvious reasons didn’t, then the same outcome in 2021. Come 2022 we were able to think about travelling again and Annekie reorganised everything which was quite a feat considering some of the places originally booked had not survived and we were a group of 13. She also found some brilliant guides who went over and above researching in depth and taking us to places our grandfather had been and visit war graves and I shall never forget the Moths brai after climbing one hill in a thunderstorm and sampling Old Brown or the maps that we studied on the side of the roads. Thank you Pat and Alan. Henry was the epitome of calm (not sure quite how he managed that) driving one of the mini buses and getting us to our destinations along with Johan, both of whom I can’t thank enough. After the battlefields trip my sister, brother in law and I went on to the Drakensberg Mountains to ride and walk, again driven by Henry and with Annekie as well. We stayed at Dragon’s Landing at Underberg and had a fantastic stay with lovely horses and amazing riding and views. Having a hot pizza delivered to our lunch stop was a real highlight along with all the wildlife spotting including a days old zebra foal, blue cranes and a hoopoe. Thank you Sonja. We walked with John, a local farmer, who was the fount of all knowledge and showed us so many fabulous things, stunning cave paintings, flowers, creepy crawlies and fossils, for which I can’t thank him enough, as I said, my idea of heaven. Plus we had an in depth discussion about jam making and better luck next time John! Revisiting and getting to Painter’s cave is now at the top of my list of things to do but keep strong, I will want another piggyback across the river! All in all I can’t thank Annekie and Henry enough for a great trip. I long to return for more exploration of this beautiful country (and visit Mugg and Bean again, how I wish we had them here) and would go to Katz to organise it. Nothing was too much trouble for this lovely couple and I wish them all the best.

Thank You for the great review. This trip was indeed a great experience in tracing the footsteps of Your Grandfather and we really enjoyed all of you exploring, questions, smiles, memories and definitely the research that went into this trip. I will always remember the day we searched for a mountain to be besieged and we had a black and white photo of this mountain. We eventually found the spot where Lieutenant Kyrke must have stood, took the photo and sent it via post in those times to his parents. You stood on the same spot or quite close when we looked at this photo on cell phone. What a special moment that was. Thank you for being so patient with us due to covid and that accommodations changed quite a bit. Annekie sends her regards and perhaps we meet again for another trip. Please send our regards to the rest of the family.

Annekie of Catz Tours & Safaris was helpful and responsive over these past 3 years, from the time of deposit in 2019 to my eventual trip in March of 2022. Catz connected me with an excellent guide in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park where I spent 10 exciting days. Catz had to book my KTP accommodations, which is not easy, 3 times due to my cancelling because of covid. Catz also arranged a lovely hotel in Upington, Three Gables, at the end of my KTP safari.

Everything turned out great. I was in good hands for the administrative part of the trip and the safari itself and my day in Upington. Despite the stress of the covid situation, my trip went smoothly and was perfectly executed thanks to Catz Tours & Safaris

Henry's Jewish tour of Johannesburg was a great l experience that I strongly recommend to anyone visiting the area. His efforts in securing access to a synagogue added a special dimension to the tour. Great knowledge and enthusiasm, very pleasant and professional, seamless experience.

A must-do for visitors interested in the Jewish history of Joburg!

I booked a 1/2 day Jewish tour of Johannesburg w Anneike (whom I believe is the owner) a few weeks ago. Company accommodated by moving up tour one day. However, though guide was gracious he acknowledged he knew virtually nothing about Jewish community in Johannesburg and had never led Jewish tour. After an hour, I terminated tour but paid in full, did not want any hassle. The guide protested, saying I shouldn't pay if I didn't get what I contracted for. I urged him to discuss this with Anneike. A few hours later she doubled down and said she had never had any complaints about this tour. After her response, I no longer believed this was misunderstanding, I believe the company is just dishonest. Anneike kept the money. Beware!

It is the first negative review for us in 24 years and previous Jewish history reviews shows this. Lauren booked the tour and accepted the itinerary, so part of the tour is to drive through Johannesburg to get to various Jewish destinations. Our Jewish community helped to create this beautiful city although serious decay and crime is prevalent. Visiting Synagogues is virtually impossible due to the current situation in Israel. Lauren changed the dates of the tour and this even complicated booking a Synagogue even more. Lauren also increased the tourist numbers from 2 to 5 and this meant that a 7 seater vehicle had to be rented. Obviously at more cost. Chris is a great Guide and wildlife Ranger and has been doing these tours for many years. Chris grew up amongst the Jewish community, played with Jewish friends, went to school with them. He knows the Jewish community better then what I do. Chris has guided for us on many occasions and we, for them as small tour companies work together. Lauren never gave Chris a chance and refused the Genocide & Holocaust center and this center is a major part of the tour. Lauren also contacted Chris before the tour and wanted a cheaper rate without consulting with Annekie. Lauren cancelled the tour after one hour and paid Chris for three people and not five. Even though Chris paid for a 7 seater vehicle and he did not want her payment. Lauren insisted. Lauren accepted the itinerary before the tour commenced and on tour wanted to change the itinerary and visit other place without consulting Annekie and she could at any time phone Annekie if she was not happy. Lauren did not do this.

In November 2023 my family from London and Australia decided we would all
Celebrate my 80th birthday in Kruger Park, South Africa.
We were recommended Katz Tours, and Annekie planned an itinerary for us.
Henri was our driver, and was excellent at driving and searching out the Big Five.
We spent four days at Needles Lodge, near Crocodile Bridge Gate, and a special
Dinner for my 80th was arranged and they looked after our group of 9.
A big thank you to Katz Tours. We all had a splendid time with many memories,
And many animals.

It was such a pleasure to have you all on tour and safari with us and to celebrate your 80th birthday with you. You sure had all the luck with the Big Five in one game drive with Henry. As always Needles Lodge is just the best to stay at near Crocodile Bridge. So happy you have great memories of a very special celebration. Can't wait for your next visit.

Many thanks to Annekie and Henry for guiding our group around Gauteng.

I was the one who coordinated the trip for our friends. I had a general idea of what we wanted to see. Annekie was very helpful in putting together what I thought we wanted to see, and offered advice on other things that might be a priority.

We ran into some last minute hurdles as certain sites unexpectedly decided to close for the day. Within an hour, she was able to re-organize things, and even move some visits to different days.

Henry was informed, friendly, and funny. He’s a great person to act as a guide, and obviously enjoys his work. The vehicle he used was safe and comfortable.

I’ve already recommended this company to friends who are planning visits to the area. And that’s the highest recommendation I can give.

Hi Kevin, I am so glad you enjoyed the few days with us on tour. Post Covid it has become a challenge to see what is in operation on all the days but luckily we managed to move things around and all went well. Henry is a great Guide and he really loves what he is doing. Thank you for recommending to other friends. We hope we can see you again in the future so we can show you the Kruger Park and other great places. Until we meet again, thank YOU for trusting us to take you all on tour

Annikie was spot on for recommending Mohlahbetsi Safari Lodge for our family group safari over Christmas. I wanted something low key, authentic and affordable. She found us the perfect place and was so knowledgeable about the area and what was on offer. If it weren't for her and Catz Tours, I don't think this trip would have happened. I'd recommend Catz Tours to anyone!

Thank you for the kind words Lelani. So glad you all enjoyed Mohlabetsi Lodge, really one of the best ones to visit that is still authentic. Let's plan the next one

We had a free day after arriving in Johannesburg before our group tour started with an American tour company. We arranged for a day tour of Jewish Historic sites with Catz. It was a day well spent with Henry. For those interested in the subject, this is highly recommended.

Thank you James. It was indeed a good day and I enjoyed your company and questions. I am sure that the rest of your trip was a good one with no problems. I mentioned the battlefields trip to you and on this trip noticed that Jewish men as well as Americans were involved with the South African war of 1898 to 1902 so I have a lot of research to do to link this to the Jewish History tour as they are historically linked.. Regards to your wife and once again, thank you.

Catz sorted out the holiday of a lifetime for myself, 6 first cousins and partners to see the battlefields that our grandfather had been at. Brilliant guides were found for us and we learnt a lot. Post COVID resulted in limitations on accommodation but nothing detrimental to a lovely time. As it is a family business we travelled around with some of the Catz staff which just added to the whole experience.

Hi Ann, it was such an awesome experience and we also learnt a lot about the Anglo Boer War. Since we started planning before Covid it was great to finally meet you all in person after the email correspondence. You all made the Battlefields "alive" again and an amazing journey to follow in the footsteps of you ancestor during the War. We loved having you with us and look forward to seeing you again in the future to show you more of our beautiful country.

My wife and I usually arrive a day early before our tour start to learn about the Jewish Heritage in the area. We chose to do a half day tour with Henry of Catz Tours & Safaris...and were we pleasently surprised. Henry met us at the airport, took us to our hotel, came back in an hour to allow us to refresh, and than started our tour of Joburg. He hit the highlights of the city, knew some much history and detail of the life Jews lived in the city, and made on-the-go arrangements to allow us to visit the synagogues in the city. We couldn't have had a better start to our trip. The arrangements we made with Annekie were perfect, and Henry did the rest. I would highly recommend Catz tours for their reliability and courtesy they gave us.
