There were eight of us in the walking tour: two 11 year old children, two 16 year old girls and 4 adults. Jeff and his team started out right away taking us into the heart of Alexandra, which has a rich and fascinating history. He didn't just give us facts, he brought the culture of the city alive for us. The optimism of the people who live there is contagious, despite the day to day struggles that they face. We felt safe at all time, and the children enjoyed it immensely. Well done Jeff, keep going ! Superb tour !

It was interesting to enter for a bit in the everyday life of the people of this city, to appreciate the dynamism of some young entrepreneurs and to talk with really welcoming locals!

I took it as a walking tour and am glad I did. It was an amazing day. I spent three weeks in SA and the four hours in Alexandra were the highlight. If you want to know more about Alexandra before you go, see Trevor Noah's book 'Born a Crime'. He has a chapter on it. Also 'Kaffir Boy' by Mark Mathabane, a memoir of growing up in Alexandra during Apartheid. That is the book that piqued my interest in the tour.

This review is long overdue. Our family of 6 signed up for bike tour. We had just taken the SoWeTo tour that morning (glad that we did both). It was quite a contrast. Alexandra Township if full of life, every corner had smiling children and friendly faces. We were fortunate to visit on Nelson Mandela's 100th birthday - the streets were alive in celebration. It was a wonderful up close look at the innovation and ingenuity of people living on the edge. Many families had a small business adjoining their home. We had the opportunity to visit traditional and modern shops, schools, and a sheban bar. My mother decided at the last minute that riding a bicycle on the hills might be too much for her (a good call on her part). The owner did not want her to miss out so he took her on a personal walking tour. She felt perfectly safe and was treated with kindness everywhere she went with the guide. It was one of the highlights of our 3 week South Africa trip.
