The Gem of Jozi
Apr 2021
Stunning! Stunning! Stunning! Green space right in the middle of Jozi. An incredible space to breakaway from the rat race and find one's center right within the city. Highly recommend!

A hidden green gem in the middle of the city
May 2021 • Family
Beautiful walks through indigenous gardens of this historical park make for an awesome day out.

There are views in all directions - over the high rises of Johannesburg on the one side and as far as Pretoria on the other.

We loved exploring the paths, finding hidden mosaics and sculptures by local artists and climbing up to the sun dial. Lush green lawns, winding stone steps, beds of clivia, picturesque ponds under towering trees. Definitely Johannesburg’s prettiest park!

A highlight is the owl forest, where the kids can spot owl art installations and learn about the fauna and flora. The Wilds is Joburg’s hidden green gem right in the middle of the city!

The Wilds a place for all
Apr 2021
Awesome place... well maintained... well worth a visit or two or three... something for the whole family and dog, or just alone . Watching the season changes as well as the ongoing improvements is mind boggling. New plantings ... Repaired paths ... etc etc. Big thumbs up to all involved... from the individuals, to the companies and even JHB Parks. This place shows what a true "partnership" can achieve.

A walk on the Wilds side
Mar 2021 • Couples
Having lived in Joburg all his life my husband had never been to The Wilds. We decided to go and explore one Sunday morning with our staffy - don't panic we took poop bags!

This is such a lovely spot! We enjoyed the views, the art, the gorgeous stone paths - everything. Cracker (our staffy) particularly enjoyed Jock's Lookout Point! :)

Although we didn't this trip, plenty of people were there for yoga or a picnic. It has a lovely community vibe which is hard to find as modern life takes over.

Highly recommend - we will be back! ❤️

A tranquil getaway into nature... right in the heart of Jozi
Mar 2021 • Family
A wonderful getaway right in the heart of Joburg. Incredible flora and majestic views from the very top. Whether you're with family and friends or just by yourself, this place offers lots of space to walk, explore or just relax on the manicured lawns. It also offers steep walks for those looking to get some physical activity in.

Great Walk near the CBD
Mar 2021
Great place to walk for free. Awesome views. There are guided tours (a donation to the guide is much appreciated) on some days. Tuesday morning is pensioners' day (you don't have to be a crinkly to join!). Look out for the art in the trees and on the ground.

Artistic reserve
Apr 2021
The most artistic reserve I have visited so far.
Nice hiking trail, lots of art works, owls, kudus, bushbabies.... thanks to artist James Delaney.
A Pick a book box that is a unique initiative. Bring a book of yours to leave in that box and borrow another book.
An old bridge connects the east and west parts. Visit both.
Very nice views of town from top of the hills of east and west parts. Nice plants. Many of trees have name tags.
Unfortunately some bring their dogs unleashed and it’s an issue.
You can picnic but no fire/braai.
They can open a tuck shop to make some money for the reserve.
Parking too small. Hope they make a plan for future.
Pity nursery closed too!

Wildly wonder-full
Apr 2021
Everyone in Gauteng should visit this urban gem.
The western side of The Wilds has been restored to a better state than it was in back in the seventies and eighties when I grew up playing/walking in it. Go in a group for a picnic on the immaculate lawns with the family, and/or just walk the paths and wooded areas in silent awe alone or with your dog. The stone paths are built in such a way that even the uphill inclines aren't strenuous. It's cool, it's peaceful and it's beautiful. You can feel how much love has been put into the restoration. And as for the art (laser-cut animals and birds, mosaics, stone beetles, there may even be more that I didn't see in this short visit) - be sure to have a camera with you.
I saw only two pieces of litter and one sign of a dog's digestive release, even though there were plenty of dogs being walked on leashes, and people picnicking. I think that's the thing about this place - it inspires you to show it the respect that it deserves. We cannot thank enough the volunteers who have brought The Wilds back to us!!!
Apparently you shouldn't visit the eastern side alone, for security reasons, so I didn't. And I'm not sure I'd visit even the western side on my own during quieter week days (I only saw one security guard and he was fast asleep on a chair in the shade). It is, after all, still a public park with free access in Joburg, so please consider your safety before wandering around alone.
Nonetheless, either grab a friend or a dog and go! Definitely go!

Tranquility in the Middle of Joburg
Apr 2021 • Friends
Did a guided walk of the wilds this morning with some friends and wow! What an exceptional experience. I’ve never been before. S I was just blown away by how amazing it is. The part heats are well maintained, the lawns are immaculate and our guide Sarah Barret was so knowledgeable! I highly recommend the wilds - doggies welcome on leads and with poop bags!

Beautiful gardens and beautiful views of Johannesburg
Feb 2021
A very large open space with so many different aspects to it. The Western side is more formal with lovely lawns for picnics. The walk on the Western side to the sundial has great views. The gardens on the Eastern side are in a more natural state with (I think) better views of JHB but there are incidents of crime from time to time on the Eastern side so you should only visit that side in a group. The parking lot on the Western side is very small and fills up quickly on weekends.
