A beautiful park where dogs have more rights than humans :) Both pup and I thoroughly enjoyed walking/running right around the dam - if you're worried about your dog being off the leash around so many other dogs for the first time, wait until you get to the other side of the dam before taking her/him off the leash, it's much quieter there.
Plenty of trees, shade, picnic tables, braai areas, taps, and a few bowls around for pups to drink from. Even a couple of plastic "clams" filled with water that we could soak pup in to cool him down.
If your dog loves playing with other dogs, this is the place to be. The best part for me was that I'm new to living with a dog, and I got some lovely advice from friendly dog lovers there.
The staff is friendly, and the cafe looks cute but I didn't eat there.
It's a little smaller than I had been led to believe - think large plot rather than farm size.

My husband and I spent an incredible day there with our 2 fur babies. Park is clean with super friendly and helpful staff. Definitely recommend ordering a pizza at the on-site restuarant and enjoying it under one of the many shady trees or benches scattered across the park.

It's so great to have a place so close but far enough out of the city that is peaceful and relaxing. Our dogs absolutely loved the entire experience and we had no issues with any of the other dogs.

A very pleasant lunch. Food was great as was our friendly waiter. Spacing between the tables is awesome allowing the dogs to play freely without being in the way whilst dining. Walk and dams were good as were the other dogs and owners.

Large park with dams to allow lots of space to run and play. R40 for adults and R25 for kids. Dogs free. There is a restaurant and lots of braai areas. Great for a morning with your best friend.

First time visit. Our dog had her best day out ever, swimming, chasing, sniffing and generally doing what a dog does when it is let free. Every dog she met seemed well socialized and there were no incidents.
It isn't a huge plot so no really long walks to be had but you can do as many laps as you want.
Food at the place was nice enough - and well priced... R46 for a nice breakfast (picture).
To top the morning off, Yentl had a nice wash and groom (R60) which was great as she smelt like a sewer from playing in mud and swimming in the dam

This was our second visit to Walkhaven Dog Park. We are a group of friends that attend Obedience Dog Training together and Walkhaven is sure bliss for our dogs!!
Most dogs are off-leash and their aim at the park is to create a safe, carefree environment for socially trained dogs. They run free, play with other dogs and swim in the dams.
There are lapas located all over the park where you can either braai or have a picnic. They also have a restaurant where you can take your doggies.
There is also a mobile grooming facility where your dogs can have a bath before you leave - ensuring that your car does not get covered in muddy paws.
It is a great outing for doggies and their owners!!

We had a birthday party for one of our friends at Walkhaven. Beautiful place - the dogs truly enjoyed it! So did my two kids aged 4 and 6. The gate closes at 18:30 sharp. We did not realize how fast the time went. By 18:30 we have already started packing up. But unfortunately it took us 20 minutes to pack up the two gazebos, webber braai, tables and chairs. We were met on our way to the gate at 18:50 by a furious woman SCREAMING at us that we are disrespectful for being 20 minutes late - which I agree with - but what was totally unacceptable is that she screamed at the top of her voice that we should take our f@#%% dogs and F@#$% off - whilst my 4 and 6 year old were with us in our car. Such a nasty ending of such a wonderful day we had.

Good day. I heard of walkhaven from a friend. I have a Siberian husky with allot of energy. Is the plot fenced to insure that the fur babies won't be able to run off?
Good afternoon - although the property is fenced off, there is no gate so you will need to keep a close eye on your husky as they do tend to take to the road

Do the dogs need leads, especially for non socialised dogs?
Walkhaven Dog Park prefers that your dog be off the lead. If you dog is not socialised enough to be around other dogs not leashed then it is recommended to rather go to a park where all dogs are leashed.
