This is well curated museum which is small enough to visit and appreciate the art presented. The carousel is lovely to watch in action.
Unfortunately the restaurant is closed which would have been lovely to sit at and appreciate the garden exhibits.

I highly recommend a visit when in Bloemfontein. The museum is set on a large plot of land and there are hiking trails and picnic spots. The building itself is in the Cape Dutch style and dates to 1941. It houses an impressive exhibition of South African art including a few rotating exhibits. While it can’t compete with the Zeitz museum in Cape Town, it really is a wonderful and diverse collection. There are photos, multimedia exhibits, paintings, and sculptures. Plan on spending a good hour viewing the galleries. Don’t miss the outdoor sculpture garden which includes an African carousel with each animal designed by a different artist. I’m not sure if it is still in use but it’s lovely to see and enjoy. There is also a little labyrinth that you can walk around on the grounds. Admission is free but it’s well worth a donation.

One of the few art museums filled with South African Art in South Africa. The permanent collection is about 8-10 rooms and of a manageable size. the downstairs area hosts special exhibits. the museum does occupy a classic old building. My wife and I enjoyed our visit and spent about an hour here. There is no cost for the museum but 10 rand to park.

We looked up places to visit and enjoyed going round the museum especially the film of William Kentridge which is very powerful. The sculptures in the garden are amazing and it’s free entry.

You go in and its a nice building and have a look at the art work. There is a floor for permanent art pieces and then a floor where they have exhibitions .Then you can go outside in the garden and theres like a tea room place where you can sit and drink something and also there is outside art features. We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere.

Well worth a visit. Museum is clean and well kept. Beautiful art on display. Would have loved to see some more of the old painters like Pierneef. Outside display and Merry go round absolutely awesome. Merry go round includes african animals ,beautifully made by local artists. A ride will cost you only R5.00! Lovely visit
