We recently did the Echo Ravine Walk with a mixed group that included some very young and very old walkers. The path was well maintained and everyone managed without any problems. The restrooms at the start are nice and clean and there is also a small shop and bottle store which was handy. The views in the area are truly... More

You do not have to pay if you are just driving through this park and, if that is all you have time for, you will still experience the stunning rock formations from the road. I have to be honest and say we did not find the staff at Glen Reenen rest camp terribly helpful or well informed. We went to... More

Stayed overnight in the Highland Retreat Mountain resort, a SANPARKS resort. This site is accessible by all makes of vehicle, for even though the road is very windy and the accommodation is near the summit of the mountain range, there are two concrete strips the whole way Very romantic self catering units that are private one from another. Problem only... More

The outcrops of rock just take your breath away! The drive from Clarens to the park is just so scenic that you can't stop taking pics!!! The roads are great inside the park and the scenery is out of this world. Wish we'd packed a picnic and spent more time inside.

This is the most beautiful Park!!! Wow but getting so neglected. The roads have potholes, Eastern entrance shocking! Building been in progress for years. As a resident of Clarens and frequent visitor I am so disappointed in Management of the Park. The signage bad and old and faded. Vulture Restaurant not in operation for months. The path full of weeds... More

We drove through the park on our way to Clarens. What a magnificent park. So many beautiful landform structures. There are a few lookout areas to stop, but there are many areas along the road where you can also pull off on the side of the road to appreciate the scenery. If you need to have a scenic route to... It's so nice - you'll visit twice. That's exactly what a friend and I did on a roadtrip to this part of the country. We were awestruck by the green nature around us, the winding roads up the mountains and most of all - THOSE STUNNING VIEWS! This is good to visit on a cloudy day too - we got... More

Our camp site had sufficient ablution facilities, super clean and spacious. The camping grounds are luscious green, clean, shaded, very well maintained and safe. There is a convenience shop just across the road. More braai facilities (for wood or charcoal barbecue) needed. The few ones there are sufficient and clean with braai grids. The view on the mountains behind the... More

We visited the park twice, once to do the game drives and once to hike. The entry fee for 2 adults and one child was 440R, which is expensive compared to other SA parks. There are several hikes ranging from 45 mins to 2 days and you can combine some of the shorter ones.

One passes through The Golden Gate Highlands National Park en route to Harrismith from Clarens. I would recommend that you take a day to explore this beautiful National Park whether it be from Harrismith or the Clarens side.. There are two or three scenic routes that one can take off the main road. These roads consist of single lane tar... More
