Whale, Dolphin & Penguin Island Cruise

99 reviews
Our cruise is unique in that we operate in the diverse Algoa Bay, rich in wildlife and history. Visiting St Croix island, home to half the worlds remaining endangered African Penguins. This tour is run just once a day instead of trying to run multiple cruises in one day. This ensures that our skippers and guides are fresh and alert for every cruise and makes it possible to spend more time and effort searching for wildlife in our Bay or observing something special that we come across provided that no one on board is in a rush to get back for a flight or bookings previously made. Our main focus is education, conservation and assisting in research which is made possible by the funds generated from our Marine Eco-Cruises out into Algoa Bay. Trees are planted to balance our carbon footprint for each cruise conducted. We use smaller boats so as to keep our cruises personal. Our skippers and Guides are very knowledge and are there to answer any questions and see to the needs of our Guests.

Hey guys you stole a part of my heart that will stay with you forever! From the moment we drove onto Shamwari land I was in heaven I couldn't believe after all the years waiting that I was going on Safari and would enter what to me is sacred land "Born Free Foundation" We stayed at Bayethe lodge and loved every minute of it, the sounds in the morning were amazing of the animals waking up and we would stand on our terrace to breathe in the bush and just look out at the reserve and say hello to the little monkeys that would stop by on the off chance of something to eat. The food is amazing from breakfast to dinner and nothing is too much trouble, the staff really looked after us and treated us like royalty. They always greeted us with a smile. Our spa treatments were relaxing and listening to the animals outside at the same time was just perfect. Our ranger was JB who was so much fun and made the four day trip so enjoyable sharing his experiences and knowledge with us, we adopted him as our South African son and we were so sad to leave him when our time came to go. He really enjoys his work and I can honestly say he loves driving that jeep! He made sure we saw so much on Safari, all of the big 5 and more. We had cocktails in the bush one afternoon and then a picnic another day and the most fabulous coffee and hot chocolate one cold morning. Many thanks for all of the little special surprises JB x On our last day we went to the Born Free Foundation within Shamwari, which is a bitter sweet experience.....but not to be missed. I loved everything about my trip to Shamwari and it will stay in my heart forever. I often think of them all there and hope one day I can return xx

I am so grateful for the experience. Fabulous staff and amenities. Worth every penny! They include so much in the cost, I’m vegetarian and had many delicious options. Special shout out to my range JB - so kind, capable and knowledgeable. He also makes the best coffee.

We booked to stay at Shamwari private game reserve for our honeymoon, over New Years, for 3 nights in the Bayete lodge. We had to save up for a few years to book this but it was soo worth it! Just driving in through the reserve we saw zebra, giraffes, monkeys and impala as we were pleasantly greeted and directed by the security guards at their gates. The lodge itself was both luxurious and wild, one morning we saw a herd of elephants and buffalo coming down the hill as we bathed in our pool, sipping roibus tea! The food was incredible, and soo much of it! On the braai night I lost count of the amount of courses we had. Each meat, both exotic and familiar, cooked to perfection and washed down with a beautiful bottle of Pinotage. Our Ranger, Siya, took us out every day on the most amazing adventures; searching for the cheetah brothers, the playful lion cubs or the elephants splashing in a watering hole. Siya was very knowledgable, teaching us about the conservation efforts, the flora and the fauna. He was a gracious host and we felt we were in the best hands with him as our ranger. We just missed out on the elusive leopard, so, we must have to go back again (and bring a good pair of binoculars)! Shannon and the spa team were ready to welcome us back from our game drives with refreshing towels and revitalising drinks. We had an extremely relaxing couples message in the peaceful serenity of the bush one afternoon... The eager to please staff were on hand for our every need; one night they ran us a bath, covered our lodge with rose petals and put a bottle of champagne on ice for our return from a timeless drive on the reserve, as a nod to our honeymoon. Just writing this now brings back all those amazing memories that made this a trip of a lifetime. We could not recommend it enough. Thank you to all the Shamwari team who made this an experience we will never forget, and the O’Shaughnessy family whom we got to share the magical game drives with. Nathan and Clare x

During our stay in Capetown, we opted to book this tour to see more than just Capetown. Our favorite was seeing the Boulder Penguins. You can't go onto the beach to get close to them - you have to stay on the walkway, but it was amazing how many of them there are - just laying on the beach and tanning. LOL Great tour! Would do it again if we'll get to go back to Capetown!

There is little to say other than we saw the great 5 and our ranger was wonderful. The lodge was our of this world with food to die for. The whole day started at 05:30 and went through until 21:30 with two game drives breakfast lunch sundowner drinks in the reserve and dinner in the evening. Went to bed wishing to be able to stay forever. Do go. Bucket list number 5 or above.
