Come on a voyage of discovery as you search for Plettenberg Bays majestic creatures of the deep. What will I see? Our climate is changing and these changes seem to be affecting our marine life, in particular the Southern Rights. Over the past two years, sightings of Southern Right whales have dropped, but we see more Brydes and Humpbacks than before. Our dolphin sightings are awesome and include the playful Bottlenose, energetic Commons and the highly endangered Humpbacked dolphins. A variety of sea birds are sighted as well as the ever growing Cape Fur seal population. We see many different animals that come into our bay to say hello. Particular species cannot be guaranteed as these animals are being viewed in their natural environment but times of year can depict their occurrence. This is a true “seafari” and every one is different, you never know what you will find …. How will I know what to look for? Highly qualified and experienced marine guides aboard will guide you through the different species you are likely to encounter, showing you how to identify them and where to look. They will be on hand to answer any questions you might have, talk about the history, geology and wildlife during your adventure! What about the boats? We booked to go dolphin watching with Ocean Safari and we did not have a good experience. We had checked the weather beforehand and wanted to go when the weather was still pleasant as it was forecast to have a serious storm in the area on the Thursday of that week. We booked well in advance to go on the dolphin watching on the Wednesday at 09:30, which was rescheduled by the Ocean Safari on the morning of our trip to the next day at 09:30, and was again rescheduled by Ocean Safari to 12:00 on the Thursday. We raised our concerns about the weather as everyone in Plett had warned us about the storm coming, but we were reassured it was fine. Even though there were delays, we were still excited.

We got to our thrice rescheduled booking well before 12:00, only to have to wait for the late passengers to join and then only embarked on the boat at 12:40. The owner of the company made these decisions to delay, knowing that the weather wasn’t going to last. The weather started to turn very bad when we were out past Robberg and it was not safe. PK, the guide, and Nico, the skipper, did their best under the circumstances.

Words cannot describe how terrifying this experience was. The waves were enormous and were bucking the boat, with the wind threatening to push us further out to sea. It was a terrifying experience but luckily we got back safely thanks to the excellent work of Nico and PK. When we got back they refunded everyone, but the company and owner put all of our lives at risk. I urge the owner of Ocean Safari to read this and understand that this was totally unnecessary. Please do not let this happen to anyone else again.

We had an amazing experience from booking to the actual day of the activity. The skipper, Ashwin, was friendly and made sure to give us the best views of the dolphins and seals. He was able to supply us with a lot of information regarding the area and the sea life. He is very passionate about what he does. The company adheres to strict Covid-19 regulations and ensured that all of their clients had a safe and wonderful experience.

As can be expected by weather-dependant activities, our trip on the Saturday afternoon got cancelled due to bad weather. We were leaving Plett the Sunday afternoon so rescheduled for the Sunday morning. Just as we were about to head down, they cancelled again due to bad weather. At this point my husband and I were very sceptical of this "unpleasant weather" because, as on the Saturday, the sea looked calm and plenty of other boats were out. I suspect they just didn't have anyone else booked on the trips as it was February so not peak season in Plett and I think they just didn't want to waste their time by taking only my husband and I out.

They offered to reschedule again but as we were leaving we requested a refund. 4 days of persistent chasing and lack of response, I am finally informed that my refund has been processed and to check that it has reflected on my account by the next day. I said I would let them know to which they then told me it could take 3-5 working days? Conflicting information but I left it and decided to wait. It has now been 5 working days after the refund was processed and I've still not received it. I have sent yet another chaser WhatsApp and email to follow up but no response as yet.

As others have pointed out in their reviews, this company is blatantly just after your money and are clearly prepared to steal it if they have to. So disappointing because all we wanted was to potentially see some dolphins!

Yesterday my adult children snd I went on a dolphin cruise at 9:30. Marlin was our tour leader. He was welcoming and knowledgeable and experienced. The sea was flat and the boat was strong. Soon after we set off we were surrounded by humpback dolphins. It was quite an incredible experience. Then Marlin told us that he received a message that a rarer dolphin species called common dolphins were spotted nearby. We found them and soon hundreds surrounded our boat. We could not get enough of these wonderful animals with their slick bodies diving sliding and swooping through the clear sea water. Before we returned we also went past hundreds of seals moaning and groaning on the Robberg rocks. It was a unforgettable experience that I can highly recommend

We went on the whale watching trip with Ocean Safaris. It was a small boat with 8 other visitors. The team were friendly, professional and immediately made me feel very safe. It is a 2 hour trip and we had a number of whale sightings and also saw a number of pods of dolphins. PK and the pilot were friendly, knowledgeable and ensured that we all had a great, safe trip. I cannot recommend this trip highly enough.

Booked a tour online. Got a message the day before asking if we would be willing to take the earlier tour because of the weather- we agreed. On arrival at the store there was a lot of customers milling around with not much direction, however after a while a gentleman came out and started organising everyone.

After being given life jackets, a bottle of water, a safety briefing about the boat and also a run down on the rules and regulations about how close boats could get to different species, and for how long for, we were taken to the boat. There was probably about 25-30 people on the boat, but actually it didn't feel cramped.

Although we saw dolphins and seals, all we managed of the whales was a tail as the it dived (in no way the fault of the company). The guides kept us out there for the full 3 hours trying to get us sightings and actually they did then offer for people to go back out on the next tour, for free, to try and see the Whales.
Sadly we couldn't do that as my sister was incredibly sea sick (so please take tablets if you are prone!!), but on that note the Captain was fantastic at looking after her.

Choppy seas mean greater chance of activity from the whales and that’s what we had on our trip!! About 7 humpbacks all actively fin and fluke slapping with a few incredible breaches. Good boat and PL and Ashwin looked after us well. Stuck to the approach rules too which is essential to ensure these beautiful animals aren’t intimidated.
