We loved visiting this historic house. The story of James Norman Hall and the link to HMS Bounty and its crew is fascinating, the staff are warm, friendly and full of knowledge. The house is stunning and transports you back to the heady days of the early 20th centuary, you can easily spend half a day being immersed in this world.

Neat little museum about 15 minutes from the airport. It can be visited quickly as the house is just a few rooms but it’s interesting with 1930 ish tropical furniture and old photos and books of the owner. There’s also a section devoted to his flying military career. This American had an amazing life. I just wish they explained more about how he and his co-author collaborated.
The little cafe open for lunch seems like a nice spot too. There’s a breadfruit tree in the garden allegedly from the strain that Bligh took yo grow breadfruit in the Caribbean.

Wonderful museum for anyone and especially anyone interested in Mutiny on the Bounty. The docent is very knowledgeable, very dedicated, very ladylike and and one of sweetest folks you will meet. The tour is great and the house is beautiful. Banana mango bread cake was the icing on the cake. And you will want to watch the movie (s) again.

The home of the Co-author of Mutiny and the Bounty. Lovely small house packed with momento’s and original items from Jame’s era. Recommend a guided tour....you could even get to meet Jame’s Granddaughter!
Surrounded by small beautiful garden.
Small cafe is on site.

We stopped here during an island tour thru our cruise excursion. It is well preserved and nicely laid out, just off the road and literally across the street is the ocean. Lots of plants and flowers, chickens and a cat. Educational and interesting.

This is a definite 'must stop' if you have a few days on the main island of Tahiti and are interested in literature and history. James Norman Hall was a fascinating man who loved Tahiti and French Polynesia. He was also a war veteran who wrote prolifically - and not just about the Mutiny on the Bounty! The house is tastefully furnished with memorabilia and family heirlooms. Vivienne and Tere are the perfect bilingual hostesses and a wealth of information, on not James Norman Hall, but all of French Polynesia. The gardens surrounding the house are gorgeous and serene. Lunch in the garden is possible if you pre-book the day before. Everything is done with true Tahitian hospitality and a smile. Books are available for purchase as well as coffee after your visit. There is parking available across the road (water side). Don't miss it!

We visited the James Hall House after our Paul Gauguin cruise. We had visited once before, just a few years ago after the Wind Spirit cruise. I recognized our guide right away, a charming lady who seemed startled when I asked her if her name was "Vivian." She does an excellent job describing the lives of the people who lived there, and the military and literary careers of Mr. Hall, including of course, the three books he wrote that together became the three movie versions of "Mutiny on the Bounty." We found the tour just as interesting the second time around.

This was a most interesting stop on a tour. We were provided a narrated tour of the home which is now a museum. James Hall, the author was a fascinating man, writer and soldier. The house is filled with fascinating photos, paintings, maps and artifacts. There were 3 film versions of his book, Mutiny on the Bounty and a film of his book, The Hurricane. Almost worthwhile stop.

We visited this small museum and we were so impressed with the exhibit. For anyone who loved the book or movie of Mutiny on The Bounty this is a must see. It is where one of the authors of the book lived with his family. The house is beautifully restored and there are many books, possessions, and photographs of James Norman Hall and his family on display. We were guided by a lady who gave a good account of the family and their history. It was well worth a visit.

While not included in all around the island tours, it is worth seeing if you have the chance. Yes, the house itself is a reconstruction, but to exact specifications of the original which was located where the main road is now. The museum is small but well organized and with interesting artifacts from Mr. Hall's quite interesting life. The custodians who welcomed us were extremely pleasant and left us to view exhibits at our leisure. There is even a small refreshment area.
