About
This old Russian Orthodox village houses a unique cemetery, in which each grave is surrounded by a small, decorative burial house. One of the region's oldest buildings, a church built of logs, was constructed before 1870.

While the old and new Saint Nickolas churches were interesting, the best part was the spirit houses of the Dana'ina Indians in the rear (check out the info on Internet if you happen to arrive outside of normal visiting hours as we did).

The cemetery with small colorful houses and the old Russian Church turned out to be one of the most memorable places we visited in Alaska.

Definitely the most interesting church/burial ground I've ever been to. Gives a unique look at the introduction of the Russian Orthodox religion to the native Alaskans. Very informative guide on site!

This 15-minute stop, just off the Glenn Highway, gives you an insight into Athabaskan/Russian Orthodox culture. Not done up for tourists at all--its just two simple churches and a fascinating, unique graveyard. Very quiet and spiritual. Talk to the priest if he's there.
