We were visiting San Jose from December 26th until December 30th, and virtually all of the museums were closed, and all the rafting trips were previously reserved. This museum, however, was open so we visited. It was not particularly "impressive," but the gold was pretty
This is a small museum located in the middle of San José (walk around Plaza de la Cultura, the entrance is on the east side). It's relatively small (a couple of hours are more than enough to take a look at the entire collection on...More
Great place to visit with packed out floors of artefacts and worthwhile pieces of information written in English and Spanish. I visited on my first day in CR, mainly because the rain came on so so heavy and I was passing. So glad I spent...More
This museum really exceeded my expectations. I am so glad we spent time in San Jose and visited a few of the museums. I really learned quite a bit about the culture of the region now. Visiting this museum gave me great appreciation for the...More

They were renovating. I was warned and should have listened. There was basically no pre Colombian gold, just a bank not exhibit.
Honestly pretty lame. There was some history to be learned but that was not the main purpose.
Just don’t until renovation is done.

I rented a car when we were in San Jose...but Uber is perfect. There are many parking lots around the museum. In fact there is a very close one so that you just have to walk 100m and your there ...everywhere. Very safe walking around the area. and the cool thing is that all the main museums are close by. I bought all the tickets at once and I got discounts. I would also recommend eating at the snack bar inside the Jade Museum.
