This beach is within 10 minutes of Quepos and beats the public beaches there in terms of beauty, space, and surf. It was virtually empty during our visit - except for very few local residents - and stretches for what seems like miles. We are...More

We came out to visit this beach and fell in love with it right away. The first thing I noticed was the locals out there surf fishing. We decided to go for a long walk Northman’s we were all alone. We say a flock of...More

Get there early and you will mostly have it all to yourself. Especially in off season. Our favorite time in Costa Rica. Be sure not to leave valuables in your car.

I do not recommend this project for a number of reasons. When I arrived, even though I went through a volunteer organization, they had no clue that I was coming. I was told all paperwork was sent to them. I was never given an orientation....More

We combined Playa Matapolo with a jungle hike where we were saw abundant wildlife and vegetation. Matapalo had wildly amazing surf and the beach was deserted. It was like we were at the end of the earth and had the entire place to ourselves. So...More

There were very few people on the beach. You could walk for miles. We found lots of Sand Dollars but they are very fragile.

This is a kind of place that is not for every one. If you are looking for a fancy and sophistication, this is not a place. This is the place to scape for everything and everyone. Plenty of sand, rocks, and waves.

Absolutely! You can walk uninterrupted for 12 km! There are river estuaries breaking up the beach. The one to the south is great for checking out some really cool birds, and if the tide is low you can continue on to Playa... More
