This park is special as you come quite easily close to the volcanic activity without lot of transpiration or long hiking. And it has many faces. The park has both dry and windy Cerrado-like areas as well as mountainous rainforest parts with parakeets and monkeys....More

We travelled here in a rental car from Guanacaste and the roads were absolutely fine. Easy to find with Google maps. You pay 700 colonies per person to cross some private land then 15 dollars per person at the park. Worth it for the well...More

We drove 2 hours from Reserva Conchal w Google Maps of Guancaste downloaded to our Android with no problems. The trails are well marked and Park staff members very helpful. So a guide and tour isn't needed for this worthwhile visit. The waterfall is paid...More

What an amazing experience, so powerful. You can't help but get the jitters listening to the boiling deep underground and the growling of raw power. Unfortunately the crater trail has been closed since 2011 due to too much volcanic activity.

Beautiful trail through dry and wet tropical forest. However...it is not for those with mobility issues. Steps are plentiful with high risers. Perhaps inclines or lower steps would have been better and more accessible for everyone.
