This is not a drive from San José just to see this kind of place. We could not enter, so we walked around the church looking through the locked gates. It took no more than 15 minutes.

A good spot for a short rest on a grassy spot in hte shade of one of the old thick walls. Or if you up to it explore the ruins

After our visit to the Cathedral de los angels we came here. Although the church is a ruin their is a ton of history. If you are in Cartago with an hour to spare it is worth a quick look.

Located in the centre of Cartago. Great place to go around and chill out by learning the story and enjoying the good coffee.

Before going to the volcano we had time to visit Cartago, we found it very easy since it is downtown and Cartago is not that big. It was closed but we walk around at peek in through the openings. Well worth the visit..

Plan to spend 20-30 minutes here to walk around the ruins. Nice place to stretch your legs and take a few photos.

These ruins are of the cathedral which was destroyed a couple of times by earthquakes. There were beautiful gardens inside, as well as a nativity scene with live sheep and a cow (for Christmas). There is no charge for entry.

This is a historical site so please be respectful. A police man was closing up but let us into the garden. It's a special place with a great ghost story.
