Located on the Bund, its history dates back 1865. It was reconstructed many times and last one was in 1999. Currently, houses a museum of history of the Bund and a restaurant. Looks amazing in evening.

Great that authorities have maintained the old Gutzlaff Signal Tower amidst the colonial buildings along the Bund. A throw-back to the maritime commercial period of Shanghai.
Interesting structure and history. Makes for a good meeting place at the southern end of the Bund.

An interesting little building which is at the southern end of the Bund. From here walk northward to see may iconic buildings from colonial period. If you read up on the history of the signal tower and the Bund then it'll be much more interesting to visit.

The signal station is called Gutzlaff signal tower, built in 1883. According to the information tables, it became a police station in 1953 and hosts the Bund museum since 1993. Interesting, yet small building.

A very scenic location near the river. The best time to visit is once it gets dark.. All the buildings would be illuminated and it is a beautiful view..! People who like extravagant city life might love this place. There are lot of places for shopping oriental things a mile or so near the bund. You could just walk from one place to another...

This historic building is an interest look back at the way we used to work. For those into meteorology, you will probably get more out of it than me but for my value, it was more about the place and the people around it.
Its well maintained albeit in its new location but it offers a great perspective overlooking the Bund and Pudong. Stopping here and looking out over the Bund is a fascinating people moment. The crowd seems to endlessly parade up and down the waterfront and the commercial and military style boats up and down the waterway. Glancing back over the water is a great view of the Pudong New Area and the Oriental Pearl Tower and an excellent photo op.

Right on the Bund, this historic building has had an interesting history, moved to make way for a new road and converted into a bar. This unusual relic is currently closed for renovation.

I enjoyed having a drink on top of this building and enjoyed the view of the Bund and the Huang Pu river from here. Mind you the building was moved a few hundred yards in the past to make way for the exit of the Yan'An elevated road. Meanwhile this exit ramp was demolished again when an underpass was constructed under the Zongshan road.

The historic Meteorological Signal Tower is positioned on the Huangpu river line next to the Bund, which is enough a recommendation. It used to provide weather reports for Shanghai and now it houses a lovely bar. Actually, we dropped in to get warmer from the Riverside Promenade, and it was a surprise! The interior is very nice, besides Shanghai motives there are references to Spanish style – pictures of Casa Batlló and other Gaudi’s masterpieces decorate the staircase. The views from all windows are absolutely fabulous! They offer an extensive wine list and the menu consisting of sushi, hand rolls and other finger food. Before leaving we asked to take us to the top terrace which was closed (it was the end of January). The views from there are breathtaking – beautifully illuminated Bund on the one side and Pudong across the river. I guess this place should be pretty crowded in warm seasons…
