Very pretty place that is rich in history and in learning. Well worth a trip there, and lots of stuff to do on the island as well!

Great historic location to visit while on Dauphin Island. It is shameful the state of Alabama does not help fund the place, so locals should petition Alabama state politicians to throw some money at this location. Self guided tour, I think it took us about an hour or so. The site is well kept and has some entertaining sights - check out the 10 man latrine! Please stop, support, and help kids appreciate our history.

We were here once before just as they were about to close and thought perhaps from the quick view it was just a bunch of "old ruins" that you could just walk around in. Well, we were wrong! The second time we were able to get to the Fort we were able to buy a ticket and do the tour. You are handed a small brochure with 26 points on interest within the walls of the fort. From what I understand it was founded in the early 1800's and has seen wars and conflicts for many MANY decades .. from pre Civil War parts of the fort, Civil War area buildings, and on forward it is rich with history that I will not spoil here for you. Well, worth the admission and plan to spend a few hours. Warning.. there is a lot of walking but it takes you all around and inside areas that are just amazing.

We enjoyed having the whole place to ourselves, and the self guided tour is very nicely laid out and easy to follow. Learned a lot! Definitely worth a stop if you are staying on DI. The views of the gulf and bay from the top of the fort are beautiful as well.

We were on a road trip and just thought we stop at the island for one night. Had no idea the Fort was on the island. Well preserved fort of historical value. Definitely worth the entrance fee and " Damn the torpedoes ...full speed ahead'.
