We enjoyed the colourful colonial buildings and the wonderful views to the sea and Recife, but were surprised how small the area is... we didn't need to stay for as long as we'd booked.

Beautiful colonial town on the north east coast near Recife Founded in 1535 built on steep hillsides and amazing views, and now know as an artists colony with many galleries, museums. Great view of churches and the Olinda light house

Nice, colorful colonial buildings and small, narrow streets and alleys! Plenty of various bars and some good restaurants of over the place. Some roof or terraced restaurants have a phantastic view to the sea-side or Recife! Plenty of tourist-guides are offering their services. The tourist...More

Olinda has well preserved historical buildings, churches and houses. In the top of the hill visitors have a wonderful view to the sea and to the city of Recife.

We visited Old Olinda 2 days ago. The city is very nice and colourful. You can visit it by walk since it's not so big. You can see different churches but unfortunately there was no timing outside so we found them always closed. The best...More

... but still spectacular. Marvellous colonial architecture but too much rubbish and a lack of investment in tourism facilities.

If you like history and architecture this is the right place for you. The old buildings, churches and monuments are everywhere and you can enter some of them and even count with some guides explaining it's history.

There is almost nothing within walking distance. You may hire a taxi + guide for less than $100 for an entire day. You'll need 6-8 hours for Recife+Olinda. You may want to arange this ahead of time (ask for references).
