A large white structure still in use as a place of worship so very colourful with lots of locals on the day we visited. A very impressive site. As with most of Anuradhapura, signage was practically non existent with very little in the way of...More

I believe anyone who comes to Sri Lanka must visit this giant Pagoda. Historical place. Lot of people from Sri Lanka come for special pooja. Mind soothing environment. Early in the morning or after sunset is better to visit.

One of many ancient sights to see in Anuradhapura. Follow the crowds to circle the stupa. There are smaller stupas in each corner.

Nice to see a amazing site like this, far from the madding crowds. Try to avoid the midday sun. Barefoot visit so can be harsh on soft western feet !

If you ever visit Sri Lanka, this is a must go to. The largest Stupa in Sri Lanka and one of the most sacred. The calm and serene place to be with a peaceful mind. The place is reach with heritage and history.

I was at the Ruwanweli Maha Saaya recently and it still gives me the same old calm feeling. One of the most respected places in Sri Lanka and if you are a foreigner traveling exploring Anuradhapura, this is one place that you cannot miss.
