So I arranged this course for me and 4 of my friends. I found Grahame online, oh well if you read the comments on his post you'll know why I decided to go with him. To be honest Grahame is a no hanky-panky man.. He teaches with so much passion, effort and even extra knowledge. You'll automatically feel like family. I really look up to this 60++ man who's super fit.. Super fast and is able to do so much making us youngsters look bad. Anyways, Grahame did 5 days with us.. We did all our courses including the skills in the sea. So we had what it felt like to do things in the real sea instead of a swimmingpool. It was a splendid experience. GRAHAME Knew what each of us needed.. He knew how to tailor our lessons making sure we were confident. If you're doing your lessons with him don't doubt this British man as he knows what he is doing.. Don't compare things to what you hear from your friends.. Bla bla bla.. Come for the course with an open minded and remember that being under the sea.. One wrong move and you can be at threat.. So make sure to learn all the skills well ALWAYS LISTEN TO GRAHAME.. CAUSE HE KNOWS BEST! love you Grahame.. We will miss you.. And if you go there thru this post, Tell him Shal says Hi! ♥️👋

Hi Shal, many thanks for this glowing review!! I do have a passion for teaching diving and I strive to get each of my students as far as they are able in the time that they have made available. Fortunately, you guys allowed plenty of time and after a slow start it all gathered steam towards the end to produce an excellent result! Great job guys, and I hope to catch up with you all in KL over the monsoon!

We took our PADI open water course with Graham this summer and absolutely loved it. We were a family with a range of ages & therefore both experience and teaching needs - but Graham’s assures tuition enabled us to all get a huge amount from the week. We did the course in our own time with clear and focused instruction from Graham which meant we all gained huge confidence in the skills we were learning. Graham’s experience of both the subject matter & the island made this an unforgettable family holiday whilst learning great new skills and seeing some amazing corals, fish and other aquatic life. Thank you - fully recommend Graham to others wanting to learn Scuba for the first time. Phil & Family - UK

Many thanks for your kind endorsement Phil! It was my pleasure to introduce you and your family to the pleasures of diving in general, and the treasures to be found in Salang Bay and the surrounding ocean. I did find it a bit frustrating that I could not certify Freddie as a full open water diver. When I took him in alone for his final dive he was great. He can dive – no two ways about it. But if he hasn’t mastered the skills as you guys did, I just can clear him for the full Open Water Certificate. Everyone feels a certain amount of anxiety initially – and obviously some feel more than others, which is why I encourage my students to take enough time to do the course in comfort. He just needs to ‘bite the bullet’ with the mask skills and he will crack it. That is actually one of the overall benefits of the course. It is only by overcoming our fears that we grow. Still he has his whole life ahead of him so as his overall confidence grows he will be able to nail it down tight. I hope you all enjoyed your time at the luxury resort – and that you are not too hot back in Blighty!!

i did my Open Water Refresher Course with Grahame in Tioman and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. Working on the island for more than 10 years he simply knows everything about the dive sites and you can absolutely feel his passion for diving and the underwater world. Great dive instructor that will make you feel safe and in good hands. Organized everything for me starting from the ferry to accomodation and beers for dinner! Being an independent PADI Dive Instructor even the pricing is better than most dive shops on the island. I would return any time to do another dive or course with him. Absolutely recommended.

Many thanks for this great and prompt review! I don’t set out to be the cheapest on the island by any means. I believe my experience in teaching, my knowledge not only of the dive sites, but the restaurants, resorts and transport, entitles me to be amongst the more expensive. Add to that my manifest commitment to the dive industry, to Salang in particular and Malaysia in general makes me more or less unique on the island! Even though you had been out of the water for so long, there was no way you needed to repeat your Open Water class. You were competent in and out of the water from the first. We just needed to get you wet again and you were off!! (Sorry about no photo – they were all miles out of focus!) It was a pleasure to meet you and I hope you make it back here one day. If I might be a little cheeky, can I remind you that you are supposed to by your instructor beer – not the other way round!!

I am hugely satisfied with the experience that Grahame provided throughout my Open Water Diving course. He is an expert in his field and immediately made me feel comfortable and confident in the water. The course was well structured and Grahame adapted his teaching methods in a way that suited me. This enabled me to learn numerous skills quickly and with ease. His enthusiasm for the sport is captivating and and knowledge of the area unrivalled. I would highly recommend Grahame to anyone considering doing their Open Water Course on Tioman. Thank you Grahame!

Hi Ben, Many thanks for your review. I am glad that you were happy with your course and the way I taught you. You were actually a very good student. You applied all that I taught and responded positively to my feedback about your performance. You were unfortunate with the visibility during your course, but there is a sound argument to learning in less than ideal conditions. But you did get to see tons of high quality coral, the fish life was abundant and the turtle at Renggis Island was the cherry on the cake! Good luck on that greasy pole, and get wet soon!

Grahame was fine during the first few dives (open and confined), however as I got into the end of the course, he was getting impatient. I struggled with descending, and he got irritated with me and my learning, rather than teaching me how to descend properly. He was very impatient with my wife as well as she had the same problem descending and not getting dragged away by the current. We later found out that he could not be bothered to technically 'fail' her and passed her.

Hi Sasha I freely admit that I am not the most patient of men! I try hard to be more patient but like everyone else, I don’t always succeed. Students must make the effort to overcome their natural anxiety. They must listen to, absorb and then apply all that they learn from the manual, my briefings and my debriefings. I am confident that I taught you and your wife to equalise, and what to do if you could not do so. It is a fundamental part of Knowledge Revue One and my first briefing. You wrote that I was okay to begin with but then became impatient. That suggests to me that you were not following the advice above and hence my frustration began to show. It is a given that people will adapt to scuba and learn the skills at different speeds. Many people do not allow enough time to overcome problems, become used to breathing underwater and learn and apply all the skills. Your wife may be one of the people who simply needed more time. Scuba is not actually that difficult but it is daunting to learn. . To say that I couldn’t be bothered to fail your wife really misses the point. My wife pulled out of her Open Water course. This was a serious blow to her confidence so I am always extremely reluctant to fail people, especially couples or people who are with a group of friends. I would dearly like to remedy this, so I am happy to offer you and your wife a great deal. I can offer you up to four extra shore dives over a two day period for the bargain price of RM 200.00 per person. If you would like to take advantage of this offer please email me at gmassicks@hotmail.com
