Organised a car to drive my wife and I into the park from our bungalow in Ninh Binh. Took about 1hr door to door.

Here you can see butterflies but will probably kill a couple of thousand accidentally. The monkey interaction and rehabilitation center is worthwhile. You can BBQ with the locals, see some old trees and some decent caves. Just be sure to fill up on gas before...More
I visited the park for two days and I think it was a brilliant experience. This is a destination site: I think it would be worth going a bit out of your way. It's also close to the other popular spots around Tam Coc etc....More
The interesting part of this national park was that we got to ride our motorbikes inside of the park! Some other nice things to see were the caves (there were a few) as well as the 1000 year old tree! So cool!

you can get to the visitors center of cuc Phuong, it is not so far, I think about 100km. we didn't spend the night there because of a plenty of cheaper hotels in the nearest towns. but if you want you can sleep there as we can see there are a few houses inside the park. To ride inside the park you will need to get a park guide with you, or... we also saw people walking on the main and lonely road but is a very long road to reach the jungle tracks.
