This grand mosque was built from the remains of the broken and destroyed Roman temples in the area and its evidence is in the walls. It is a very big mosque with 365 columns inside the actual mosque. Its minaret is 32 meters high and...More

This was part of a 2 day trip and I wasn’t looking forward to this part, but learning about another culture and seeing some amazing buildings I genuinely thought it was very interesting

I came here with a guide outside prayer times, so there was no-one else inside. That was good because my guide was able to explain the history of the mosque to me without disturbing anyone. The interior is relatively small but the tower is pretty...More

If you are going to stop at Mosque, may as well be this one. It has a very interesting construction history, not a lot of people and easy to tour. Women, don't forget your head cover.

The locals say that this is the oldest mosque in Africa, although this is disputed. However, that takes nothing away from the beauty and simplicity of this vast building. One fact which is not disputed is its significance to Islam in Africa. Definitely worth a...More

The architecture is breathtaking. The intricacy of the designs reflect the dedication of the artisans to the expression of their faith. Humbled by the perfection of the sundial and impressed by the water sistern system

Great tour with a great guide from TTS. Very hot but we took regular breaks and coach was air conditioned. Educational and so much of it is still in tact! Recommended!

There is no direct public transportation. You would have to take a Louage (shared minivan from Tunis to Sousse, and then from there, another on to Kairouan. My expectation is that each Louage would cost less than ~$8/9 USD.

I travelled there from Sousse by a form of public transport called Louage. Cheap, cheerful, reliable and safe. Takes about 45 mins to an hour. It resembles a big taxi, about 8-10 seater. Great day out. You could get out at... More
