My wife and I were touring both the DRC and Rwanda. After our extended stay in Virunga National Park, we wanted to explore the area in and around Goma. Fortunately, we were able to find and hire Christian as our private tour guide. We started emailing with Christian months before our arrival and he made every effort to accommodate all of our requests and to reassure us about our safety during these tours. Even though he mainly advertises for a walking tour of Goma, you can hire him to help you explore many areas in the DRC. Our first of two days with Christian, we toured the city of Goma. We had asked him to secure a private vehicle for the day and pick us up from our hotel that morning. He secured us a very reliable Rav 4 with an excellent driver, Allan. Christian was always very punctual. The day was very enjoyable getting to see all areas of Goma. One of the stops we made was to shop for some African wood carvings. In other countries we have visited, normally the tour guide gets a cut of the sales for bringing you to the store. This was the complete opposite. He helped us negotiate the price down to the same price a local would pay. This alone made Christian worth hiring! He took us to one of his favourite restaurants for lunch, which was a real highlight. It was an authentic Congolese buffet. Other stops of the day consisted of visiting different residential quarters, the local Goma market, the local boat harbour, city centre, airport and lava flows of 2002. Even getting to visit his church. It was a fantastic day after which we felt like we had a very good understanding of the city of Goma and what like was like to live in it. For our second day, we wanted to see some of the countryside around Goma. We asked him if it would be possible to drive to the town of Sake (northwest of Goma). This trip would have been incredibly foolish to attempt on our own, but was made possible by Christian. We started the trip by making a stop at a Priest's School beside a black lake. This was a very beautiful and scenic walk as the school is also located along the shores of Lake Kivu. Our next stop was a visit to a green lake. From there we continued on to the town of Sake. Once arriving, we parked the car and went for a walk through the countryside north of the town. We visited a local farm and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Then returning to Sake for a walk around town to the local market, a Coca-Cola, and then returning to Goma before dark. Sake and the road to it is not the safest place to visit, but we wanted to experience this place. Christian did an incredible job at ensuring our safety. He negotiated and got us through checkpoints we would not have been able to get through on our own and always kept our passports secure. We cannot say enough good things about Christian and our time with him. He's an exceptional individual that wants nothing more than to improve the country he lives in and help showcase it to the visitors that come. He takes the safety of his clients as his number one priority. He is incredibly flexible and willing to accommodate you and your requests. He's an excellent picture taker. He even took my iPhone to take discreet pictures when in areas pictures from tourists are not welcomed. Christian speaks very good English, we found his rates to be very reasonable and he made sure no one took advantage of us. He went above and beyond to drive us to the border the next morning and made sure that we got through safely. (no charge...just because he's a great guy) Since our time in Congo, we've stayed friends with Christian, texting and emailing weekly. It was truly our pleasure to have Christian tour us around his beautiful country! This is the guide/best friend you need for your exceptional time in Goma and surrounding area!

Christian was unavailable, however his associate Alphonse conducted an extensive tour of Goma. Lots of walking through every part of town with descriptions about the area, some moto rides, a stop for both shopping at a market (where Alphonse assisted in fighting for a fair price) and a beer, it was very relaxed tour which made you feel like you weren't a client but were hitting the town with a friend. Alphonse continued to run into people he knew who were able to add to the depth of the tour and understanding of the city. The tour was a great way to spend a day, especially if you're based in the city to explore the region. I highly recommend this tour.

I had a great tour around Goma with Christian. The tour of Goma is very comprehensive, we saw all the sights, and Christian took some excellent photos for me. He also negotiated very well and ensured I wasn't ripped off by anyone. He also assisted me with my travels before and after my tour which was very helpful. This included Christian arranging my hotel/pickup for my next city in the DRC and he even helped me as a translator when I had to go to the hospital.
Christian is a very kind, caring person who knows Goma and the DRC very well and who speaks very good English so I would highly recommend him as a tour guide.

I first enquired by sending an FB message to Christian who was incredibly helpful and promptly answered all my questions. Christian organised my DRC visa via his counterpart Noé. Alphonsé was my guide. I was a little concerned about the security situation in the DRC, but all were extremely professional and everything ran like clockwork.

Alphonsé showed me all the sites of Goma, and also his favourite lunch spot where we had a few beers and ate delicious fish from Lake Kivu.

I definitely recommend that anybody in Gisenyi take the time to speak with Christian and organise crossing the border and spending a night or two in the Congo.

I would like to thank our guide Alphonse for a great day in Goma, DRC. We were three guys from Slovakia travelling around Rwanda and Uganda and we wanted to take advantage of the proximity of Goma to the Rwandan border. It took a lot effort to figure out the visa and all the formalities needed. We would not make it without the help of Christian and our guide Alphonse. Thanks to them we were able to enter the coutry in the time when it was actually impossible. They helped us with visa and thus we could enjoy the half day tour of Goma, which we totally LOVED and we had the most memorable memories. We walked from the border all the way to the city center, walked through the local market, rode motorbikes throught the city, visited the guides home places, very local and had the opportunity to meet some local artists and eat at local places in his favorite areas. What I personally rememeber the most is walking through the parts where the guide grew up and in few minutes we were followed by 50 local kids that obviously enjoyed seeing and touching the white people, as this is a very rare situation for them :) we had to literally escape from them :) We had a great lunch at a local restaurant - the fish was brilliant ! After that we visited various places and also went to the beach side. All in all I really enjoyed the tour and engagement with locals. I personally had some concerns about the safety there, as the political sitution is rather unstable, but all my worries were gone, once we met our guide. That is the best and only way how to enjoy Goma and DRC. Last but not least, at the end of the tour we ended up in a house of a local artist, which drew a caricature of three of us. That was hillarious. All in all, I can only recommend this walking tour, definately worth every moment of it. Thanks for everything. Jozef and co. from Slovakia ;)

I wanted to see not only Goma, but also the surrounding areas, including nearby villages. Even though Christian was not in the country at the time, he got other members of his team to be my guides. On the first day Alain and Arsen took me all over Goma, including very picturesque market, fishermen, and parts of Goma that got covered with lava in 2002 eruption. On the second day, Alain and Dadycas took me to few villages outside of Goma. I enjoyed this tour very much. Just walking the mildly chaotic streets of Goma and watching tshukudus pass by is unique and fun experience.

Christian and his team were excellent in arranging everything for a day trip to Goma. From the moment i reached out to arriving on the border everything was done very efficiently and communicated very well.
We ended up doing a tour largely on motos throughout the city and seeing different markets and the few cites (roundabouts, the port and the view from the hill). Having seen Goma in this way, it was very interesting to see the contrast between the different parts of the city and a place that has a deep history in the story of Congo and even Rwanda.

If you are in Kivu and have a day (and time to arrange in advance), I'd highly recommend taking a day trip to Goma.

Thanks!

We had a great tour of the city! We were met at our hotel and then walked through the centre of town visiting a few markets. We were quite keen to see some areas that were still covered in lava rock from the 2002 eruption so we hopped on a few motorbike taxis and a bus to a district on the outskirts of town. It was incredible to walk through here and see how the areas are still affected by it.

It was a great tour that we thoroughly enjoyed! We felt safe throughout and got to experience much more than we would have otherwise. Many many thanks!

Me and my uncle decided to go to Nyiragongo volcano, but expect that we wanted to see Goma. We read many bad things about Goma like war, crime etc. In my opinion it is not true. Nowadays Goma is ok if you behave responsibly. robably around the city there are still some rebels etc. but inside UN keeps control. Anyway city is amazing place to see even for the most hardcore travellers. Congolese people are very friendly and helpful. I saw may places around the world but Goma is one of the best. Unfortunetlly it is still very difficult to travel there, because of lack of well transport communications, terrible roads, and barrier of languages among local people if you do not know French. That is why we decided to take a guide and we found here Christian. He is amazing guy, extreme helpful and he really care about our safety. He help us withh some diffrent case even before when we take him. We saved so much time because we could see many things without asking people all the time. Additionaly we could save a lot of many because when he took us for shopping he help us bargain and we paid eve five times less than first price. We tried real local food in the restaurant for Congolese people, not for tourist. All trip we felt very safe we did not have even one moment when we could feel uncertain. Finally he drop off us up to the border but he did not have to because we said that we didnt need. He answered, I wanted to be sure that you go safe to Rwanda. That is amazning guy.

I highly recommend Christian's company. He helped me organize a visa and had me met at the border. I was traveling alone and had heard a lot about how dangerous it was, but it didn't feel dangerous and it was great to have locals show me around. I was very thankful for Christian's attentiveness to all of my inquisitive emails i sent before my trip.

It wasn't so much a walking tour as it was a tour where we would visit a site and then take motos to the next one. I wasn't expecting that, but it was fun.

We visited so many things: markets, a cave, craft stalls, roundabouts, had lunch a local place, etc. I skipped the visit to the airport and regretted that later when i realized that it is a cool kind airplane graveyard. My recommendation is just to 'go with the flow' and not have too many expectations.

Anyway, it was good. My guide and his brother showed me around and were very kind.
I would not have had the knowledge and confidence to see all of those sites on my own. (It's not like Goma has a robust tourist infrastructure.) I would definitely recommend this tour and any others that Christian is offering.
