Ruins by the sea
Aug 2019 • Friends
When in Omisalj, visit Mirine, old Roman town. It’s not very big. But it’s nice as situated by the sea. In daytime in summer, take your bathing costume. If there’s a concert in the evening, don’t miss it. So you’ll see the inside. Otherwise, I think the small museum is not open.

High potential but poor offer

It is nice place. Near the beach, very nice view from there. A lot of ruins, very interesting but nothing is how it should be. There are few tables with some description but nothing else. There aro no paths, souvenir shop. You can not enter in the church. It would be beautiful if someone edit it

You can almost imagine being in the ancient Roman city
Aug 2018 • Friends
Present day Omisalj encompasses the ruins of the ancient city of Fulfinum – a town built for retired soldiers who had served the Roman emperors Vespasian, Titus and Domitian. The ruins of a three nave basilica – the largest in the Mediterranean – dating from the 5th to 6th century in the archaeological park Mirine – Fulfinum trigger the imagination. One can almost imagine being in the ancient Roman city. Many graves were discovered beneath the vestibule of this complex, including a completely preserved in situ sarcophagus. My rating would have been higher except that the complex was inexplicably locked the day we visited.

Quite place near the sea side

Nice to visit with children: not too big nor too busy but still nice to walk through. And for those who are interested in details and background, the info is displayed in several languages

History by the sea
Jul 2017 • Family
I love this place in Omišalj. Especially if there is an event happening here. Children can run around as much as the want, you can even stay at the beach during the day. Because there are not a lot of people, you can even bring your dog. You can lay in the shades under the tree on the grass. I like the clean water and the peace. We were there at the midieval fair and it was very fun!

Genius loci

I really loved this place. You can walk around the ruins of the old cathedral and also the ruins of old Roman town of Fulfinum. Definitely worth a visit if you stay in Omišalj, Njivice or Malinska.

Beautiful and antique

Really good weather in July helped enhance the experience. Good for a short stay, picnic nearby, swim on the beach nearby in the summer season. Great for ruin lovers.

Surprising site of great potential, very informative
Jun 2016 • Family
Could not find andy instructions online how to get there, but after we found the exit for Omišalj, it was surprisingly easy to find our way there, because the directions are clearly marked with street signs.

Although the Romans could not had predicted that their little town will end up being squeezed between two extremely ugly semi-deserted industrial complexes, the site still manages to keep the charm of a half-uncovered mystery. It borders the sea, so it's pleasantly different from so many archeological sites where you struggle through scorching heat. And, although still not completely arranged, it is well kept and the little museum at the entrance to the church is very informative.

The lady in the museum was extremely knowledgable about the subject and provided us with great explanations, not only of the site but also of the historical and archeological background, which made us understand much more also about the history of the Roman times in this part of Europe in general.

Warmly recommended!!

Lovely area in the middle of nature
Jun 2015 • Couples
I had a lovely cycle ride round this area, followed by a dip in the sea. The area is set up for those who want to walk/cycle/swim, without being overwhelmed by crowds of tourists.
