Prainha Beach is a secluded half-moon-shaped beach, bordered on each side by rocks and high cliffs. It is one of the best surfing spots in Rio, and may be reached by car or by the orange "surf bus" that passes through Copacabana and Ipanema.
Suggested duration: More than 3 hours

To enjoy this beach well arrive early, as the number of visitors is limited. Take sunscreen and some drinks and food and enjoy a clean beach with pristine nature around you.

The beach is small and usually the sun gets blocked by the mountain after 03 PM in winter time, but it is amazing the view of the mountains so close to the water. it is the surfers beach. it has a nice restaurant with an...More

Go there if you want to have a more relaxed atmosphere than the city beaches. Greta for surfing and the water is cleaner as well. Nice fish places close by to go for a bite at sunset.

Just a good walk or city buses from Ipanema and you are at the cliffs of Prainha, above the cliffs is one most secluded and serene places to watch sunset at the bar. Rocky beach, pittoresque yet I felt I embarrassed the poor locals washing...More

Secluded beach, access only by car. By far, the best beach in Rio. The landscape is breathtaking. Cliffs, sand and a little beach with perfect waves.

Provided you don't mind taking a 45-50 minute ride from central Rio through Barra de Tijuca, Grumari is well worth the effort. It's a thoroughly charming beach that even in the height of summer isn't too crowded. The huge rocks that sit near the shoreline...More

The place is a bit secluded, suggest you look for hotels in Barra region as most of those will be able to arrange transportation to and from Prainha.
