Restoration works on the wall foundations for Hirosaki Castle had been done for a few years and still currently under active progress. The 3-stories high castle was temporarily placed at 75-meter distance and a temporary staircase was built up by the side for viewing the...More

Its the smallest we visited in Japan, yet the architecture is still interesting and worth the visit. Can consider to visit after 5 pm, and to wait until night fall, that will present another kind of view with lighting.

The setting is a beautiful park inside several massive gates. The castle itself has temporarily been moved 75 meters from its normal location because part of a massive wall on which the castle was sitting began to bow out so needed to be rebuilt. As...More

Hirosaki Castle sprawling grounds are spectacular during spring cherry blossom season with over 2000 mature trees, botanical gardens, bright red bridges crossing moats and waterways. We were on a cruise ship which docked in Aomori, so decided to take the local train up to Hirosaki for the day. Much better, cheaper, more fun and more flexible than using an excursion offered by the ship. The castle grounds are part of...More

We went there after the blooming (1 week late). The remain cherry blossom is colourful but should be much better during blooming. The castle is quite small and not look wow without cherry blossom.

Yes, the renovations are still going on and are expected to last until 2023. The castle is expected to be put back into its original place by fall 2021.
