Went in morning quiet with fresh air, walk up stairs & pretty yellow autumn colours around Buddha statues, feel calm & peaceful.. If I am not wrong, this is Medicine Buddha, pray for good health. Nice to visit this place during autumn!

A modern Zen temple with an interesting side building with a huge thatched roof. Never seen one of these anywhere in Japan perviously.

Visited early in the morning and very few people up and about. Went up the stairs and it is a simple temple but was impressed with the old and heavily laden thatched roof on one of the place of worship. The night before the steps...More

A small buddhist temple. Nothing much special. Just that it was up a short flight of stairs from the Kusatsu Onsen Yubatake (hot spring field) and since already there, no harm walking up the stairs and having a look around.

It's next to the town's main attraction Yubatake in the center of town, so might as well walk up the steps and check it out for a few minutes...just a typical temple though...

Not really much to see up there after treking up the icy stairs. A quiet and average temple. You do get to see yubatake from above if you walk around to the back a bit. Looks more impressive from below.

We saw several people slip and slide on the way up, the stairs have not been kept clean and the snow has turned to ice. Do use the banister on your way up. The view from here is well worth it and some areas of...More
