This is a very nice place to enjoy the onsen in Kusatsu, the pool is huge and the nature around is beautiful. To get to the onsen you have to have a short walk through the park bubbling with hot spring water and foodbaths everywhere,...More

This place has left a very good memory in me and will always be in my mind until I get to visit again. With a beautiful snowy mountainside view, a wooden (cypress?) fence around, sitting beside the center rock in the pool with a towel...More

NIce park at the outside of the outdoor hotspring. Inside, there is one big pool that has fresh fed water from the main source of hot spring.

My wife and I just finished a rainy weekend in Kasutsu, and the Sai no Kawara onsen was our last stop before heading to the bus/train back to Tokyo. We had walked around the park like area the day before enjoying the foot bath and...More

Probably the largest onsen pool in a natural setting that I have been in. It can accommodate up to a hundred bathers and the Kusatsu scenery in the background adds to the experience.

Great place to visit if you are in kusatsu. Even though they are no showers, the water is natural and relaxing. This is an outdoor onsen and it is very large. Great view from the onsen and definitely a place you need to go in...More

If you are visiting Kusatsu, I highly recommend that you visit this onsen. It is an outside public onsen. Entrance fee is low (600 yen in April 2016), and you can buy a towel at the onsen's entrance if you don't have one. (320 yen...More

Unlike most hot springs, there isn't a place for you to have a shower before entering. The hot spring bath is quite large and nice enough although not as beautiful as the posters. There are many bugs in the water, more so than other outdoor...More

This outdoor onsen is a 15 minute walk from the town centre. Upon arrival, you have to make the payment of 400 yen before entering. The washing area to wash yourself clean before entering the lake is rather small. The water here isn’t super hot,...More

A big, spacy bath with some "islands" to cool off on; inexpensive and with a good view of the forest. No free amenities, no showers but very pleasant to soak in and enjoy the nature. A great finish for the walk in the Sainokawara Koen.

There was a young child in with his Dad when I was there - maybe 4 or 5 years old. Not sure what the age cut off is or the guidelines for kids are but families do seem welcome.
