I was very disappointed to see that this was closed as well. I went twice just to ensure that I was there during the listed times but it was still closed. You can see a little of it through the windows. The outside of the building is well kept and there is also a burial ground was also well kept.

My wife and I were with our daughter and three grandsons during a trip to DC this past summer. After touring Mount Vernon we went to see Christ Church after lunch in Alexandria’s Old Town. The docent explained much of the history of the church to us. We sat in George Washington’s family pew box. They have maintained the church building in very good condition. It was also very interesting to stroll through the cemetery and view the old headstones.

This stunning church has a rich history which you are able to experience first hand. Sit in George Washington or The Lee Family pews. Attend a service in this still active church, or pay respects in the cemetary.

After living in Old Town for five years, I was finally out when this was open. Free tour of a unique and superbly maintained ancient (by US standards) church with an incredible history of serving presidents and founding fathers. The inside is a bit plain on first view but plenty of historical details and such to keep you looking. Great gift shop too.

I visited Christ Church in September 2021. The church itself was closed. But it was interesting to walk around the burial ground outside the church and read the historical markers about all the famous people who visited the church from colonial times to present. There is also a gift shop but unfortunately it was also closed. Alexandria's Christ Church is a good photo opportunity and worth seeing even if it s just from the outside.

My colleague and I were in town and we assumed we could stop by the church. They do have specific tours time that you should check out. However, we got lucky that one of the docents was there and let us listen and participate on the George Washington pew part of the tour. It is really neat history and information. We want to thank her (Janet?) for allowing us to learn. I plan to be back!

I used to love this historic church used by General George Washington for over 20 years and General Robert E Lee (boyhood home blocks away).
Historical plaques honoring both were in the church recognizing both. Inexplicably the historic plaques have been removed by the church leadership.
My wife and I will never set foot in this church again.
Old Alexandria is awash in history. Wonderful city to visit and dine. We can no longer recommend this church for visitors.

I had a great tour of this beautiful historic church. The Docent was incredibly knowledgable and humorous, and although I was initially reluctant to take the offered tour, by the end I was so glad that I took up the offer. If you’re in beautiful Alexandria I really recommend that you take an hour of your day to go around this building. You won’t regret it - and you’ll even get the chance to sit in the same seat as George Washington and Winston Churchill.

This is a true shame that the leaders of this historic Christian church removed two important pieces of its history that indicated where our First President worshipped and where one of America's greatest generals did as well. They claim shunning them makes it more welcoming, but to shun someone is not a very Christian thing to do. It is hard to believe that someone in the church told the newspapers that Robert E. Lee symbolizes an attempt to overthrow the Union and preserve slavery. Both incorrect. He fought for his state, Virginia, which did not try to overthrow the Union. Nor did the Confederacy try to preserve slavery; when Lincoln himself said the North was not going to end slavery where it was legal. It is too bad history is being erased by ignorance in a place of worship. I hope they put the plaques to these great Americans back where they were.

I was shocked at the lack of historical knowledge of the docent who led the tour of the church when I was there. She could not answer many of the questions that I and others in the group asked. Even worse, I know that she gave incorrect answers to a couple of questions because I had done some research before I visited Alexandria and Christ Church in particular. This is an important historical site. It's a pity that they can't get real history scholars to do the tours there.

Why did they recently announce they are taking out a plaque commemorating George Washington that is "inside the Church?"
That is the entire attraction people are there to view?!

Radical left wing revisionists, erasing and disrespecting our history including General George Washington. Apparently this is because (as was accepted at the time) he had slaves.
Never mind he freed them all.
Never mind the US fought a war to free the slaves.
Nobody thinks slavery is anything but a historic evil but to erase the memory of those that gallantly built this Country is something only Mao or Lenin would embrace.

There is street parking, We walked from our hotel. Another option is using the free trolley that runs up and down King Street and walking about two blocks.
