These reviews are idiotic. Nobody would enjoy walking through the neighborhood but 6th street is great if you like antiques, good food or great music. I live in Amarillo and we rent space in two of the antique malls on 6th. We also frequent the...More
nice place to stroll the afternoon away, with antiquing, good food, and at night, bands at some of the bars on the strip. i had a great time just people watching....seemed like people from all walks of life were there enjoying themselves.
Save your time and energy. They've freshened up store fronts & sidewalks, but it's still the same ole "boozer boulevard" it has always been. I keep going to this area over the years (1969-2015) just to see if it really has changed, but NO IT...More
Old Jacinto Area has one shop I really like to visit. Amarillo Coin is owned and operated by a very unique family. Both the Father (Frank) and his son are some interesting people. Most Gold and Silver shops are out to take your money. This...More
Park the car and put on your walking' shoes! This is Amarillo's antique shopping district. You can walk for several blocks and check out the antiques, old books and yeah..junk too! Friendly proprietors for the most part. Vintage clothing, furniture and stuff! When you get...More
I have visited this area over the years and was sad to see that the area has lost much of its charm. It has more bars and less antique and other quality shops and restaurants than in the past. The long standing and historic Golden...More
Why would a neighborhood be considered an attraction? If it is, it would be a very sad one. I have lived in Amarillo my entire life and actually remind people to stay out of "San Ja-Ghetto". Don't go here unless you prefer crack deals on...More

I spoke with one attorney today about this, he is running for Potter County Attorney in March next year. I posed this question to him. His answer was this: Sure we need to do something with that area and if I am elected I will do my best to have it cleaned up and put back as the way it was in the 60's. Back then there wasn't an I-40 running past Amarillo it went right down 6th. street, course that was "what we called the business loop" back then. the straight through road was Amarillo Blvd. and even it was a nice part of town. Course, back then there wasn't such a thing as " DRUGS" for sale on street corner's. If they were there, it was in dark alley's and out behind saloons as then we had patrolmen that did something other than drive around in their cars.(sorry guy's but you know it is true and yes today there just aren't enough of you to take care of all the crap that goes on in Amarillo.) I personally think things are going to change in 2016 which I hope will be for the best.
