We went as part of a tour, and it was okay. It was littered with trash, and that was a little disappointing. It seems to need a "keeper".

Wow what an amazing site to visit and free too! We walked up the hill and over the dual carriageway! And it was worth it. For a time we literally had it to ourselves and the views of Bodrum were worth the walk alone.

The amphitheatre is worth a visit for those staying in or near Bodrum as much as for views of castle as for the antiquities. Entry is free and the souvenir shop closed at the time we were there but there are clean toilets on site.

We walked there from our hotel along the seafront. Here are directions for those interested in also doing this on foot starting at the castle. It should take about 30 minutes.
(1) go along the seafront promenade away from the castle. (2) go up the first street to the left (with your back to the sea) of Starbucks (3) turn left at the road junction at the top of this street (4) walk straight past the entry to the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus (5) turn right when you come to a mosque with a blue conical roof on the minaret and up the lane. This can be steep for a short stretch but there is a handrail on the right hand side for the less sure footed (6) When you get to the junction with the dual carriageway, you'll see a shelter to the right and a zebra crossing by it. Vehicles, many travelling at high speed, do not stop for pedestrians but using it provides an excellent view of oncoming traffic in both directions (7) Turn left when you've crossed the dual carriageway and the site will be a minute or two on the right.

Get any bus out towards Gumbet and you will pass right by it. We probably saw it 8 or 9 times. It may be worth seeing a performance there.

This Theatre at Halicarnassus, also known as Bodrum Antique Theatre is on the way to and from Bodrum. I have seen enough ancient theaters during my travels and this one was pretty nice, well renovated and well preserved. Although, the theater in Ephesus is more impressive. The entrance is free of charge and a couple of information boards are available to read. We had the place to ourself. I don't think many people visit this antique theatre. According to the guide, concerts are still held because of the good acoustics. From the very top of the theater you will oversee the entire city of Bodrum. What an amazing view. Just in front of the stands there is an altar to the god Dionysos. The Romans called him Bacchus. Halicarnassus was the ancient name of Bodrum. This theater was built in honor of the ruler Mausolus. If you are at the very top of the theater you can see the remains of his mausoleum. The word mausoleum is an eponym of his name. If you are a lover of Greek history then you must visit this place.

We had no problem with parking. We parked right in front of it and we could easily walk in without crossing the street.

Great amphitheater to visit. It’s free to enter and has toilets there. You get a great view of the marina and Bodrum castle from up high. You can’t park up there so it’s worth walking, it’s a gentle incline from say the Myndos gate or Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, it’s set right next to a fast and busy duel carriage way (there are zebra crossings but you wouldn’t risk stepping out so we ran when it was clear).

Very disappointing!!!,
We visited this place after the mausoleum, signs easily lead us to the amphitheater however we had to cross a busy dual carriageway to actually visit this attraction! We unfortunately could not cross as we had 2 children with us and didn't fancy jaywalking, don't think our travel insurance covered crossing a dual carriageway.

I did notice a bus stop by the attraction on the same side and a lay by, so you could visit if using a bus or car.

To reach the amphitheatre, one can either drive or walk. I chose to walk.

Signage pointing to this attraction is effectively non-existent. You’ll know you’re close when you hit the major traffic artery Bodrum-Turgutreis Yolu/Kibris Sehitleri Cd., but exercise due care and attention. Crosswalks on this thoroughfare are few and far between and traffic hurtles along at a fair clip.

Unless you emerge exactly opposite this site, you may find it difficult to locate even though it is right on the traffic artery itself. Look for at tall flag pole topped by a Turkish flag. That will be the entrance to the site.

There was no admission fee when I was there (December 2022). There are a couple of billboard-sized posters that provide some information about the site itself.

For some reason or other, I was a wee bit disappointed by this attraction. Not quite sure why. Maybe it was the hassle of trying to find it or maybe it was doing something I always tell others not to do: comparing it to other amphitheatres around the world.
