- Glenn DjangkarJakarta, Indonesia260 contributionsReliable Mode of TransportThough we had a JR Pass, when we were in Osaka, the Osaka Metro ended up being the means of transport that we used the most. Very reliable though try to plan your travel so you do not get caught in the middle of peak hour. Getting a map from the station master really helps. Facilities are great. There are always clean toilets and elevators at every station. Those travelling with strollers should be careful as the platform and the train carriage do not always align with each other.Visited March 2023Written 28 March 2023

Stations in the downtown area, however, are fairly spread out and may not be convenient for tourists especially for east-west travel. The mass transit network of Osaka, consisting of multiple operators, can be pretty confusing for first-time commuters.Visited April 2023Written 23 April 2023
- Abovetheclouds2,442 contributionsEfficient and easy to use.A lot better and easier to use than the Tokyo Metro. Trains are more frequent and it is less busier. Even rush hour is not too bad. Very easy to purchase a ticket. Lines are clearly signposted. Clean and easy to navigate. Have coins in large denominations to purchase a ticket. Tickets are small so look after them. I lost mine a few times! Suggest downloading the Osaka Subway Guide and Planner on Google Play Store which is really helpful in planning a journey. Stations are huge especially main ones like Umeda and Namba so give yourself time if you need to be somewhere and have the correct Exit or you will walk in circles! Japan is a very orderly country so don't push to get on a train, wait in line. Avoid eating or drinking or talking loudly. Only sit in a priority seat if you are eligible to or the train is empty. To be honest, there are not that many tourist attractions in Osaka and most are conveniently located quite close to each other so your only likely to use a few of the lines and stations.Visited June 2023Travelled soloWritten 7 June 2023

The interconnecting metro subway system never cease to amaze. Criss-crossing everywhere, one learns that “if you like it then buy it there and then” as the chance of ever finding your way back to the same shop is near zero.

We were told metro in Japan is never late. We were twice treated to late trains. Third time, it was late, still.

There were multiple delays. Very uncharacteristic for Japan. There were no explanation or someone to talk to about connection. We couldn't believe it!

I take the metro every day, it runs on time and is rarely interrupted (depending on the line). Some lines busier than others, avoid Midosuji if you can. You can easily take the Yotsubashi line to get to central areas that intersect with some Midosuji stations.

We bought the Osaka Amazing pass for 2 days which cover the metro trains as well as some popular attractions. The Osaka metro was smooth, punctual and clean and covers most of the important tourist attractions. Our preferred way to travel.

Hi, I am going to live in amagasaki in a few months. Do you know how the commuter pass works? And how can I know the monthly cost of the route between osaka and amagasaki?
I am looking everywhere but I find impossible to know the exact prices I will need to pay If I want to go to osaka in a daily basis.
Thank you for your help.

Children under 5 years old don't pay tickets. But how will they enter and exit the subway?

Hi Maria, Not sure if there is a pass for just the subway, but we bought an Osaka amazing pass which covers all the subway lines & most attractions.
1 day pass 2,500¥, 2 day pass 3,300¥.
