Amazing experience of cycling with Ian. You get to know the city a bit when cycling. Being able to cycling in a foreign country with a someone speaks a shared language is amazing. Most importantly, their rentals are road bike! Not those old grandma bikes. Nothing wrong with them, I am just more comfortable to ride a roadie, especially when you are not familiar with the road conditions around the city. Their guide is very helpful if you want to cycle alone in the city after their tour. All in all, great guys, great service, great experience.

From the moment we arrived in Kyoto where Ian greeted us with coffee to our final destination and friendly chat with Gareth in Osaka we had a great time. The bikes were fantastic and very well taken care of. The price was such great value for money. We had such a fantastic day, would highly recommend for cyclists of all levels.

Ps. We easily sent our luggage ahead of us direct to our hotel using Giga Rabbit service.

Thanks Globalwheel!! We will definitely be back 😊

I had a ride around Lake Biwa down as a bucket list ride I wanted to do when I visited Japan with my family. Finding decent road bike rental in Kyoto was proving tricky from the U.K. until I luckily discovered Globalwheels while searching on the internet. Even though they are based in Osaka, they were able to deliver a Giant Contend road bike to the hotel I was staying in in Kyoto. Gareth, one of the owners delivered the bike personally. Unfortunately the hotel couldn’t store the bike so Gareth helped to find secure storage near the hotel. The bike was in perfect condition and I had an amazing ride around Lake Biwa (Japan’s largest Inland Lake). Needless to say after the ride Gareth arranged to collect the bike from the hotel. Top service and I can certainly recommend Globalwheels for great service when hiring a bike in Japan.

I was tempted to Japan from Scotland by a surprisingly affordable airfare. Not a country I would have initially considered for a cycling holiday. Not wanting the hassle of bringing my own bike I opted for a bike hire and all roads led to Glowbalwheels. Even for me, a confirmed technophobe, everything from booking, payment, arrangements, bike pick-up etc. was straightforward and hassle free. I hired a road bike and it was ideal for my requirements, small frame in excellent condition. My 12 day route took me to Kyoto, around Lake Biwa, then a loop along the coasts of Mie and Wakayama. Usually staying a couple of nights (hostels and airb&B) in each location. Cycling in Japan was a revelation while the cities are a huge urban sprawl the countryside and coast is pure magic. All my concerns regarding language, food, traffic, costs were proved wrong. I would definitely do it all again and I have no qualms about recommending Globalwheeels, excellent service and a great bike.

Me and my Dad visited Japan for 2 weeks. We’ve cycled from Osaka via Kyoto to Hiroshima on bikes rented with Ian.

Before the trip Ian was a great help in plotting the route and advice on where to go.

The materials rented were of great quality and during the trip Ian helped us out with questions on the route and with finding a local bike repair shop when needed.

All in all Globalwheels enabled us to have a great experience in Japan. I can strongly recommend them to everyone who is looking for a fun bike holiday in Japan.

Regards,

Quinten

Found more by luck, while reading through a cycling forum. Not disappointed. Located just a stones throw from a JR station. Bikes really well maintained and a nice selection. Ian and Gareth are great guys who clearly enjoy their cycling and offer wealth of local knowledge.

I booked a last minute trip to Japan and was initially going to bring my own bike but decided against it. I found Global Wheels online with amazing reviews. I emailed them and got a response really fast. They were amazing. Responded to all my questions and even switched out the stem before I got there for a shorter one. They had a range of bikes and two in smaller sizes which is what I needed. They are located right beside the train station which made picking up the bike super easy. When I got there they already had the pedals I needed on the bike and they put on my own saddle. I took the bike for a ride in Osaka and had a small fall which bent the derailleur hanger. I called them and the first question was if I was alright. They then said to bring the bike back and they had a mechanic who could fix it. The mechanic was around the corner and fixed the bike in 15 minutes so I could catch my train in time. I rented the bike for 7 days and had no issues with it. When I returned it and they found out it was my birthday the next day, we had a beer to celebrate! I really can't say enough good things about Global Wheels. Next time I'm in Japan and cycling, I would definitely rent from them again.

I can’t recommend Global wheels strongly enough.

I rented a touring bike from them for a week in late November. Gareth, the proprietor, was really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. He gave me some great tips for warmup routes around Osaka, as well as a couple of longer routes between Asuka and Kyoto, and from Kyoto around Lake Biwa.

Traveling around Japan on a bike really is a great way to see the country. For me, the autumn colors were spectacular, and moving at a slower pace than the Shinkansen made them all the more impressive.

There are plenty of interesting places to visit within biking distance of Osaka. I had time to visit Minoh falls and the nearby Katsuoji Temple, the ruins, restorations and park at Nara, the Philosophers’ path and the old imperial palace in Kyoto, and the spectacular Lake Biwa.

The bike itself was fantastic. It was a joy to ride. Global wheels provided all the extra kit I needed to haul my luggage around as well as an emergency repair kit and the essential helmet and water bottle!

Japan is a beautiful country and the Japanese people are friendly, welcoming and helpful. I have no regrets whatsoever about deciding to go on my biking tour. I only wish it could have lasted longer.

My thanks to Gareth, Ian and everyone at Global Wheels!
