This is small temple in a very built up area in the centre of Kyoto. It is a charming place, with a distinctive main temple building, and pond with koi. You would probably not spend much time here, but it is a little oasis of...More

We just happened to find this temple while walking back to our hotel. A peaceful quiet oasis on a low-traffic side street. The information sign says that this temple is historically considered the center of Kyoto. Very nice place to stop for 5-10 minutes. I...More

It's a nice oasis right in the heart of town. It's at it's best during sakura when the large tree is flowering. If you are a fan of ikebana, you probably already have iton your list. If not it is a great place in the...More

Rokkakudo is a small temple, but famous as the base of Ikenobo Kado (a school of flower arrangement). There is a stone called "Heso Ishi", and it was considered once as the center of Kyoto. The entrance is free, so it is worth to visit.

Great stop when in central Kyoto, especially if on a tourist trip and with little time to see the other major attractions. The temple is well kept and it's nested in a group of buildings that surround it.

This temple is in a hexagonal shape. Hence the name "rokkaku do" ( 6-angled hall). It is located smack in the middle of Kyoto downtown, only steps away from the big Karasuma street. Once inside, it was peaceful and quiet although surrounded by high risers....More

Going after dark I think only increases the appeal of this place. Lots of well lit temples and walk ways make it quite a magical journey, which for us at least ended with us being lucky enough to catch the monks singing in the last...More

City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its
blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered
shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street
bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to
peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home
goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center
is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and
