It took some doing to get to this area, but it was worth the trip. The temple is up in the mountains in a much less populated area, and the location contributed to the lack of crowds which was a real plus. We took a...More

A bit more difficult to access compared with other famous tourist spots. Take the “system 17 bus”, and better from Kyoto station so that you can get a seat to take this 1 hour long bus ride. En route you’ll enjoy the view of Kamo...More

Went here and walked around grounds for 1 hour with the family. Was a wonderful trip and highly recommend it. Its a bit off center and mainly Japanese here visiting rather than many foreigners

Visited this place in the morning before the crowd flocked in. Loved the garden and the little statues at this temple. Worth a visit when in Kyoto.

It is cherry blossom season which makes the grounds of this temple both incredibly beautiful - and also a little crowded. Despite the busyness the Sanzen-in Temple was well worth the visit as it offers beautiful gardens filled with spring colour and textures and a...More

This is the largest of the three temples in Ohara village. I chose to see this last and was awed by the large garden with particularly stunning views and colors for autumn foliage.

We tried to take the bus from Sanjo-Keihan but the bus was so packed when it came by that we had to try again the next day, this time from Kyoto Station. The bus leaves from bay C3 and costs ¥550. The walk from Ohara...More

Tranquil temple located in Ohara about 45 minutes from Kyoto. Not too crowded. Beautiful zen garden. A few charming Jizo statues concealed amongst the moss.
