Fantastic temple to look around - the views out of the balcony are fantastic as are the walks around the grounds - it was a shame the balcony was partly shut due to refurb works!

Location is nice and offers great views of Kyoto - but currently covered in brown. Area is full of life and shops.

this temple near the Ninenzaka, Sannenzaka. Many shops here. you can imagine you are in the Old Japan. Wearing kimono was another must do list when visiting Kiyomizu-dera Temple.

We arrived just as it opened, which proved to be wise. As the crowds grew, waits became longer. You will have a beautiful panoramic view of Kyoto. The street leading to the temple is lined with many interesting shops, so allow time for them.

This temple is a little out of the way, but it has nice streets around it full of food places and shops selling traditional products. The temple itself was mostly covered in scaffolding which was unfortunate, but we still had a lovely walk around the...More

An amazing temple for its sheer size, but every time I've been there, its been under construction. Still an amazing experience.

Although it was under restoration when I was there, it was still breathtaking. Just to think about the history that it has seen, also the sight from the mountain path, and the temples. I was there during heavy rains, but that also gave an extra...More

Kiyomizu-dera is in a very interesting section of Kyoto with many various ceramic studios. consequently the small streets that surround the temple are filled with shops that sell many different styles of ceramics. that, along with the magnificent views from the temple, makes this a...More

Yes there was as I took the bike myself, it is near the parking lot for private cars and after the parking lot you have a small walk up the old street up to the temple entrance. On the map it might be south west located of... More

The main temple is still under construction. In practice this means that you will not be able to see it from the outside since it is all wrapped up. But you can still go in and walk in the area around it.

Inheard that too and saw the seating area in the temple as we stood at the doorway. The seating area is a little inside of the temple door past the donation box where people throw coins in as a donation. You do get a... More
