This is a wonderful day trip from Kyoto. The mount is a faily easy climb and the szenery is beautiful. There are warnings of bears, snakes and poisenous bugs along the second part of the way but we never saw any:)

Only fifteen km away from the center of Kyoto, a little mountain village with a shrine situated high up on the hills. Impressive views and a remarkable vegetation, with huge Japanese cedars. I recommend to go there by bicycle from Kyoto, a reasonably easy ride...More

It does provide a nice view in certain spots, but overall I expected a higher mountain, i reached the top without even feeling its the submit. No bears were spotted. Overall an easy trail as it was all stone pavements, no off trail path available...More

Arriving at Mt Kurama it is tempting to enjoy an onsen visit or have a delicious lunch, but the mountain hike takes a good 2 hours, so be warned. There are multiple steps, with a short cable car offering the opportunity to avoid 750m of...More

This makes a great trek on a day out from Kyoto. Take the train to Kibuneguchi Station, then walk along the road to Kifune Shrine, passing the restaurants built over the stream along the way. You can enter the park area via a small booth...More

Hiking from Kifune Shrine to Kurama-dera take about 2.5 hours, if you don't spend too much time visiting the temples on the way. The weather is adorable in summer time. It gets much cooler in the evening, so don't forget to bring some clothes if...More

Try the Kyoto site on festivals. Be aware that it is hugely crowded at that time.
