It particularly worthy of visit in the late fall during foliage. There are a lot of steps & stairs just to get the temple. There are 3 main temples for a good day trips to Takao, & the buses by JR are covered if you...More

It is definitely worth climbing. Suddenly, a big gate and temple appears at the top of mountain and huge. Also, this is a famous place of autumn colors. It locates outside of Kyoto and takes an hour bus trip from the Kyoto station. It is...More

If you are looking for a good day or half day escape from Kyoto, by all means visit Takao and Jingo-ji. Less than an hour's bus ride from Kyoto, Takao will give you a lovely mountain and forest experience. Jingo-ji is probably the most interesting...More

It's a 350 steps hike to get up to the temple, but it was a worth it! The leaves had started to change it's colors and it was just beautiful.

バス1日券の区間からはずれるものの、ぜひ訪れてほしいお寺。あの有名な源頼朝像や薬師如来像(国宝)は歴史通には外せないはずだ。 Although departing from the 1-day bus ticket section, by all means, I want to visit this temple. The famous Minamoto Yoritomo picture and Yakushi-nyoraizo (national treasure) are indispensable for history lovers.

Because this temple is a bit out of the way and has a number of stairs, it isn't hard to enjoy a peaceful time at this temple away from the crowds at other temples. We went late October before many leaves in Kyoto changed colors...More
