We came here as a part of a small group tour and our local guide showed us through the exhibits. There is a wealth of information about Lake Baikal and related matters. It is well set out and easy to follow. A few things to...More

The Lake Baikal museum shows visitors everything from the historic geological formation of the basin, to the lake fauna and the hydro-electric station by the lake. Of course there are aquariums with live specimens of the lake fauna!

Excellent museum where you can learn everything you need to know about Lake Baikal including studying it's microorganisms in a microscope room furnished with about 30 microscopes. Plenty of English captions, though not enough.

It was a very interesting museum with a wealth of information. Good displays and well presented. However you do need an English speaking guide, or other language if not English speaker as all information is in Russian Without this you will miss out on all...More

Interesting but difficult to understand unless Russian, limited English translations. Some of the facts about lake fascinating and the microscope room is great

It could be a very interesting museum if there are English translations. If you do not know the Russian language, there is not much to read. Instead of visiting this museum, you can better read about the origin of the Baikal lake at home.

About a 45 minute walk from the market at Listvyanka. Walk last 10 mins on side of road, quite dangerous. The lady at the counter had no English. Despite the sign saying 300 RUB per person we were charged 780! Others we met were forced...More

The museum was good, EXCEPT for the living environment provided for the two seals. They were basically swimming back and forth between two chambers with the walls painted blue and nothing else. They are intelligent animals imprisoned in a two-part cell. It reminded me of...More
