For some silly reason, none of my credit cards were accepted when I tried to prebook tickets online, something I was strongly advised to do in so many reviews. I prepared for the worst and many hours of queuing, but it took merely 5-10 minutes of waiting time, this was around noon on a Saturday. Besides - there are automated... More

The crowds dammit! Just like the Louvre or the Vatican, the crowds are insane! You can spend all day in queue and never get in (going as part of an official group helps, they get priority)! It's difficult to enjoy most of the time as the place is so packed. That's not to say it isn't a great museum, it's... More

We spent 5 hours wandering around in awe at the delightful exhibitions in the Hermitage, and it wasn't enough time! We will definitely be back one day to finish the tour, as the art here is just breath-taking.

what can you say -- it is big -- very big -- be prepared to spend all day here the ticket queue is large -- especially for off-tourist season so not sure what it will be like during the tourist season -- recommend pre-purchasing tickets to avoid the queue for tickets

Buy your tickets in advance and take advantage of the special two day visit that includes The Hermitage, Winter Palace,General Staff Building, Menshikov Palace and Porcelain Factory. We paid around £20 each and allows you to skip the queues. As you approach via Palace Square you are instantly drawn to the magnificence and the colour and this continues inside. As... More

This is a must-see in St.Petersburg. You could spent weeks here to see every room and piece of art properly. Rooms inside Winter Palace are astounishing, my brains almost could not handle the level of detail, glory and gold around me. Take good walking shoes (it takes hours to walk here) and be amazed by one of the most amazing... More

There is so much to see here it would take you over 6 years viewing each item 1 minute or less to see it all. If you can, get a private guide. It was so worth it. The best time is Friday night. It's open till 9. Be careful out in the square. This is where the pick pocketers pray... More

This museum takes time to go through and is worth it. The artwork, dating from centuries ago up until the present, is a wonderful collection.

It's huge. It's magnificent. Tacky and classy at the same time. It's way, way to much of everything. They clearly didn't have a budget constraint. We spent two and a half hours there, so you should arrive well rested.

We thought we would spend the best part of a day here but only ended up staying 3 hours. A lot of the exhibitions are very similar to others you see in Europe so we focussed more on the Russian parts and architecture. Definately a highlight in St Petersburg.
