Cold War Tour of a Soviet submarine
Mar 2020
This is one of the coolest things to do in Saint Petersburg. The sub is in great shape and the tour gives you the feel of what it was like on a Soviet submarine during the cold war. The guide was excellent and a former Russian Navy veteran. If you want to see something a bit different than what most people see in the city, go see this submarine. Pretty easy to find and a beautiful church is across the street. Saint Petersburg is by far one of the best cities I have ever visited and I can't wait to go back.

Its a Russian submarine which was in use in the 50s.Its interesting old machine which is is worth to be seen...just to have idea what humans can stand. You will get idea how sailor live in the difficult conditions, you will have chance to look thru periscope, see all the room of all officers, where sailros used to sleep, how massive and powerful are torpedos ,what they use to eat etc!I went there alone by foot from Hermitage museum...It took arround 25 minutes of normal walking pace.

Interesting experience. Most of the info will be in russian but there was one guy who spoke some english and helped us a lot. You can get a pamphlet in english for about 10 RUB. Even thought we didn't understand much of the information told by the guide, this was still very intriguing.. And claustrophobic.

Fascinating and friendly.

I happened upon this by accident, and was mesmerised by it. As has already been mentioned, the guides speak no English - but, hey, it's in Russia! Despite this, they were very friendly, and much was described using only sign. Absolutely worth a visit to experience the cramped conditions, and a fascinating slice of Soviet history.

A real feel for life on a submarine and the basic conditions the sailors endured. Worth a visit. Tour guides only speak Russian.

Real submarine!

It is original experience and you can learn a lot even if you are history & militaria buff (just as I am).
I was a bit disappointed that "the route" was so short (both in time and in distance), as there are so many interesting things you can find on such warship, however it is probably the only option, due to a limited space. For such a short time it was rather expensive experience (400 roubles) but I wasn't disappointed as there are only a few submarines around the world that you can visit.

Very interesting place to see, it's all well maintained. If there is a problem with the entrance, you should call the museum and someone will come to meet you.
Highly recommend!

We glimpsed the submarine from the Peterhof express hydrofoil and were intrigued when we learnt you can take a tour inside. We went early in the morning and were first in line right as they were opening. You need to wait for a group to gather as you can only explore with a tour guide. The tour is in Russian but there is a small brochure in English you can use. The tour guide was also nice to speak slower and allow my husband to translate the main points. Even without understanding the tour is still very educational and very interesting. I was amazed at how cramped everything is inside and how the crew used to live onboard.
The location is also not too far out - you can take an Uber for about $4 from the Hermitage. Highly recommended.

Old Submarine
Jul 2018 • Couples
Interesting attraction, the conditions for the submariners is poor, hot, cramped and noisy. I certainly would not want to go to sea in a vessel like this let alone go under the surface, brave sailors.

An interesting experience

It is worth going to see the submarine. The tour takes 20 minutes and it is in Russion. There were four of us who did not speak Russiin and the guide tried to explain the basics in English, although his English was not good. Still it is worth the experience.
