Canonical example of Moscow Baroque
May 2018 • Solo
Pleasant church in Kadashi the quarter in Zamoskvorechie. It was famous, rich and revered. Canonical example of the Moscow Baroque style. I am most impressed by the bell tower, and not by the church itself with gilded heads, although it is not bad. It did not escape the fate of the majority of Moscow and Russian churches in general — to be closed and to accept within themselves a variety of institutions and economic services-up to workshops and warehouses. This church for a long time housed a sports club of a sausage factory! However, Then it became partly lucky — it was transferred to the restoration center which carefully and diligently restored it — so that it now can please an eye of fans of the Moscow antiquity and Russian church architecture.

Beautiful.....but sadly forgotten....
Nov 2016 • Solo
It's been very difficult to find this amazing church, completely hidden by houses and new constructions, then I heard its destiny is probably even worst, since it seems that in 2010 the Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov ordered the demolition of several old buildings near the church, including a deacon's house dated 1813, because he wanted to built elite apartments.
That's probably why the whole complex is in total state of abandon, unfortunately..

The first historical information we have on this site is documented as early as 1493.
The beautiful five-domed church with the laced belfry was constructed during the last years of the 17th. century and also its interior was frescoed later on.
History has been very tough with this complex: before the Soviets closed it down in 1934, even Napoleon's soldiers had partly destroyed it, using it as a stable....more recently it became a KGB archive...the Russian orthodoxy finally got it back in 2006 but it seems nobody still cares about it: at present day (2016) only the church has been restored, while the whole site is still badly under extremely slow construction....
